⮚ Public Information Administrator and Field Specialist.
The Public Information Adminstrator role has undergone some notable changes since the course was last updated. Perhaps the most important change is the fact that PIAs act more autonomously than in the past - much of the PIA’s day-to-day work is done without the direct involvement of SOCOP. The PIA-SOCOP relationship is explored in the course in detail.
The Field Specialist course has undergone general improvement. EDU collaborated with several experienced Field Specialists to improve the quality of the course. New information has been added, and much of the existing information has been presented in a clearer way, or been elaborated upon to provide a more comprehensive, and less vague, learning experience.
Lastly, we updated our quizzes/tests at the end of each course in order for them to be aligned with all of the brand new information they have received.
If you have taken the PIA and/or FS class in the past, we strongly encourage you to retake the new class and review the new information. If you have not taken the class before, now is a great time to learn about the PIA and FS positions, so try out the class at: https://www.openlearning.com/taw.
EDU would also like to give a special thanks to all parties involved for assisting with this update.
EDU is always looking to improve our classes. If you have experience in a position and would like to help us update our classes, please email educationtaw@gmail.com. EDU have already begun the process of updating our TFO class, and you can check out our blog post about it here.

For those who have already taken the class. After this new one is done do we issue another tab? I.e new PIA Class done on (date) etc
@Warlohn: Good question. In theory, a new tab should NOT be re-issued if one takes the class again (to avoid confusion as to when a member is eligible for the Online Academy Badge). However, we do understand reissuing these tabs is a good way to document and award those individuals who go above and beyond and continue to re-certify themselves. Long story short, we'd like to leave this decision up to each division themselves.
