Vanguard is looking for some staff to help the growth and development of the Payday 2 team.
Anyone interested should contact SUL Himscar or Kingcheese for more information
The Project CARS division is looking for staff in all regions to help drive recruitment and run events. Currently, the division has members in North America only.
Presence in the EU and OC is sorely needed, as both regions are teeming with sim racers looking for a structured environment. In addition, the NA battalion requires more than just one staff member (me) to run events and recruit.
The challenge most people are having with playing Project CARS online is how chaotic and unpredictable other drivers are and how the race will play out. Sometimes, the race is over before anyone can get off the starting grid. Leveraged by TAW standards, the Project CARS division has implemented an event structure that should alleviate most of these problems. The goal is to broadcast this solution to the appropriate audience.
Selected staff will be expected to drive this effort forward with vigor and passion. Video editing skills a plus! Contact DoctorKajita.
The Project CARS division is pleased to announce its first season, the U.S. GT3 Cup! The three-week season begins Wednesday, 5 August 2015 and ends on Sunday, 23 August 2015. There will be three tracks that will be raced on each week: Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen and Road America.
The schedule for a given week is:

Hi everyone, DoctorKajita
here. I'm very excited to announce the official spin-up of Project CARS (Community Assisted Racing Simulator), a
multiplatform racing simulation from Slightly Mad Studios. Via Wikipedia, "[f]unding for the game was raised by the community and the developers
themselves, without the financial aid of a traditional publisher." This will be the
first ever racing / sports game to be introduced by TAW; it will be designated in TeamSpeak as "[CARS]." The hope is that this endeavor will open the doors to a
very popular gaming genre that has huge, dedicated following. The potential for TAW is
CARS is currently part of Vanguard Command's Horizon
division, where staff, events and resources will be organized in order to move
forward with recruiting. We'll only recruit PC players to start (across the
NA, EU and OC), but may be open to consoles, depending on our success.
On Saturday, 27 June 2015, at 2100 GMT, we will be holding a spin-up meeting in TeamSpeak. All interested TAW members are encouraged to join.
I've played almost every popular racing title available,
including iRacing, rFactor 2, Assetto Corsa, DiRT Rally and RaceRoom Racing
Experience. Some of these titles have been around for a while and have a
dedicated, hardcore fan base. Truth be told, all of these titles are more "sim"
than Project CARS and have certain features that are more refined. But, Project
CARS, to me, has a great balance of fun, immersion and sim. It's also the most accessible racing game due to its price (one-time buy
at US $49.99 [currently on sale for US
$29.99 on Steam!]), UI, dev support, track selection and growing community
/ leagues. The last bit about community is important, because it's what
galvanizes the sustainability and longevity of a game.
The ultimate goal is to create a successful division
that will inspire others to spin-up other racing titles, such as iRacing. Maybe
one day there will be a corps within TAW that is exclusively for racing sims!
To be perfectly honest, I don't know. TAW has never had
a racing game, so we're making history and walking blind at the same time.
However, breaking ground is not new to me and I'm confident we're going to make
this thing work. I was part of the leadership for the first ever competition
battalion in TAW for Battlefield 4. There, with the help of a dedicated staff, we
meticulously documented a comprehensive set of rules and regulations specific
to competitive play, and we were very successful in creating an engaging gaming
The same organized approach will apply to Project CARS.
However, requirements to participate will obviously not be as strict and will
instead follow the standard TAW protocol. In fact, true to TAW fashion, Project
CARS will welcome drivers of any
skill level to make this a diverse group of members. We'll be working together
as a team to create the best sim racing experience possible.
In the coming weeks, we'll carefully select SOs to help
with recruiting efforts. In addition, event structure and scheduling will be
determined. The most important element is for us to be a presence in online
races and build a positive reputation within the Project CARS community. With
of Ethics as our backbone, we'll race with respect and integrity,
and hopefully that'll attract others to want to join TAW, as many racers are
starving for clean, organized events. Needless to say, TAW can provide what so
many other clans / communities cannot.
One of those components is training. Practice really does
make perfect in racing, and we'll strive to create a fun, dynamic training
regime that helps members become fast yet smooth drivers. And more importantly,
I hope that through the Project CARS spin-up effort, we will be able to bring
in fresh membership that can become strong leaders in TAW.
Tidbits About Sim Racing
PC gamers take their hardware seriously, as you know.
Sim racers take this to the next level with dedicated racing rigs that have
thousands and thousands of dollars invested. We won't expect anyone to break
the bank to play, but at the very least, what we recommend (not require) is for members to have a wheel and pedal
set. It not only makes the experience that much more authentic, it will
probably help them become better drivers. Popular mainstream manufacturers of
wheels and pedals are Logitech, Thrustmaster

This month in the Vanguard Blog, we will be looking at the rolls of the Vanguard Staff and what they do to support teams who are currently in Vanguard. While there are many similarities between roles of Vanguard Staff, there are some differences.
To start with, we will look at the roll of the Vanguard Commander and Lt. Commander. The VC/VLC position differs from the regular Army Corps Commanders in a few unique ways. The most obvious is that it is us, along with Army Command, that decides which games are brought to TAW. You will also see much more hands-on approaches in Vanguard, than you would see in a regular Corps as the fledgeling units need more guidance and support than well established divisions.
The job of the Division Commander and Division Officer in Vanguard is more than just to maintain the Horizon Division. The DC/DO make sure that each individual unit is working properly and is running smoothly as well as keeping track of the staff and make sure they are properly trained up as sometimes they have not held positions before. If there is a problematic staff member we make sure they are receiving the training they need or if necessary we help replace them. The DC/DO also help out with events and just sit in to see how moral is in the unit. On a whole the job is simply to help nurture and allow the units to grow on there own, and to allow them to mature to reach their fullest potential.
The Vanguard Spin-Up Leader (VG SUL) is a division level position in the Vanguard Horizon Division with a status between AL and TFO. VG SUL’s report to the Horizon Division Commander. While game specific SUL's are tasked with overseeing their current game, VG SUL’s have a more diverse set of duties. VG SUL’s act as an assistant to the DC and DO for the horizon division, focussing on only a couple of games at any one time as opposed to the whole division. Primarily, we help identify any issues, and help out where needed in the division with training and guidance, as well as advising the officers and game specific SULs in Horizon units. A VG SUL can also be the assigned SUL for a game that does not have a game specific SUL. A lot of the work of a VG SUL depends on what is needed at the time.
Now on to unit summaries, as always more in depth versions can be found in this months edition of the newsletter.
Wow! Launching already?! It seems unreal. I have to admit the time has flown by, but as they say, "time fly's when you're having fun." It's the time we spend with friends and making memories that hurries it along. Today, we have over 50 members strong, and two teams on theDGL.org ladder. We just wrapped up season 3. Team 1 is moving up to division 1 and team 2, recently added, are moving from division 4 up to 3! Both teams are undefeated.
As we venture forth to our new home, I want to give a special thanks to the leaders of Vanguard: Eifer, Kingcheese, and the former Vanguard Lt. Commander, Andrewki. Thanks for all the times you were our guide, mentor and at times, therapist. Without your continued support, we wouldn't be where we are!

Evolve recently got a new game mode called Arena which is a battle to the death without the hide and seek elements that are present in other game modes which some players did not enjoy. Our comp group won their first competitive games in a tournament on May 31st against a field of fairly strong teams, but sadly got knocked out of the tournament by the team currently ranked second in the ladder. The earlier victories and encouraging, with our competitive team currently being tied for 10th place in the standings.

The Elite: Dangerous Horizon-Team is up and running! The most recent content update released "POWERPLAY", a new way to interact with and pledge allegiance to political factions in the game world, as well as new ships, modules and countless fixes. Anyone interested in the game and what it's all about is welcome to check in to our TS Channels up in Vanguard at any time, our mandatory Events currently take place every Saturday 1900 UTC. We are still very small and on the lookout for potential new staff members from both NA and OC Regions. So if you are interested to help us out, send a message to Metzger

Hey everyone! Guild Wars division has been holding steady while waiting in ever-growing anticipation of both the upcoming expansion and the next content update. Once the content update hits, we'll be seeing a completely repaired Lion's Arch, as well as the start of the new class specialization system. As for Heart of Thorns, we are hard at work, and have nearly finished, our guild mission progression so that, once the expansion is out, we'll be able to start right away on our very own guild hall. In fact, we recently unlocked the ability to play Guild Challenges, which leaves us with only one more mission type to unlock before we have them all!

This has been a solid month for Star Citizen. This month featured the Starfarer (medium-sized fuel ship) and Reliant (versatile mini-hauler) concept sales, both of which have been very popular thus far in terms of dollars pledged. As we wait for the FPS module, our Racing Tournament is well underway. It will be the first of many month-long internal mini-tournaments focused on the most relevant content. Our racing team is very strong, and TAW is currently in the Top 3 Organizations worldwide for all three racetracks.

It has just over a month since the World of Warships (WWS) horizon team was launched, and we now have the initial staff and events in place. The North American practices start at 7PM Pacific time on Sunday, European practices are on Fridays, 7pm GMT+1 and Oceanic practices on Wednesday, 8PM GMT+10. We hope to be seeing more recruits in the near future, and hope to have a larger amount of incoming members once open beta is launched, which should include clan support. We hope this is soon, though do not have date yet.

This month in Vanguard Blog we will finish the overview of a games journey through Vanguard, when it becomes a Spin-Up team (Tier 1 & 2).
When a unit reaches tier 2, it is beginning to develop self-sufficiency. The unit is progressing well on most aspects of administration, with satisfactory attendance and leadership. Once a game reaches tier 2, internal transfers can also take place. Conditions for Tier 2 are as follow:
1. Must have at least an XO, SO, FS and 3 DI’s per Battalion
2. Must have some subscriptions for the intent of own server (if required)
3. Have at least 20 members (not including staff)
4. Must have 2 events in place
5. Badge conditions must be a work-in-progress
6. Wikis will be a work-in-progress
7. Forums will be a work-in-progress
Once the Vanguard staff believe a unit is ready for launch, it enters tier 1. The unit at this point is awaiting approval from AC and CIC to launch. It is the final stepping stone before the unit gets Division (TAW Unit) status. At this point the game will receive its' own unit on the front page of VG and TAW site, get a graphic for the unit, and will virtually have full control with only minor intervention from VG staff. Conditions for Tier 1 are as follow:
1. Full complement of Staff (CO, XO, SO, TS, FS, 3 x DI) per Battalion
2. If a paid server is required, it must have the funds and at least one server running
3. At least 30 active members (not including the staff or the DC, DO)
4. Been at Tier 2 status for at least one month
5. A DC and DO must be selected and discussed with VG staff and the staff from the Corps it will be going into
6. At least 2 mandatory events for each Battalion or 1 mandatory and 1 adhoc per week
7. All badge requirements must be in place with a guide to badges and conditions
8. Forum will be up and running
9. Wikis will be up and running
10. Full game must be released to public and not in beta
11. All staff must be TAW Academy trained in their position prior to launch
That brings us to the end of the overview of Vanguard, join us next month when we will look at the roles of the Vanguard staff and what they do to support the new units.
Now on to the unit updates. This month, we have updates from four of the five units currently in Vanguard. A more detailed update on each unit can be found in this months edition of TAW newsletter. Also, World of Battleships and GTA V are expected to join Vanguard in the next few weeks, more information to come soon.
Finally, we are also pleased to announce that TAW is participating in the Alpha testing of “Call of Combat”. Information on the game and how you can be part of it, can be found in the “Call of Combat Test Channel” in the Vanguard channel tree. If you have any questions about call of Combat contact Eifer either in teamspeak, or by email. As part of this effort, Vanguard will be hosting a tournament in Call of Combat. The rules can be found here, and a signup form here.
Call of Combat
Call of Combat is a multiplayer real-time strategy game, where forming well thought-out battle plans and carrying them out cooperatively are the keys to success. Each player commands a squad of 4 soldiers through the typical battlefields of WW2. Players can play against each other in a 1 vs 1 battle, or team up with others to fight battles on an epic scale. In such larger battles, the highest ranking player of each side has the role of coordinating the team’s actions through a special leader interface which also serves as a tactical overview of the situation. It is through the team leader’s strategic guidance that players can achieve victory!
Call of Combat has the following key features:
Real-time strategy game; intense battles where tactical cunning and teamwork are just two of several key skills a player must master in order to be victorious.
Multiplayer game; team up with other players and form effective chains of command where the leader coordinates the team’s overall strategy.
Squad-based tactics: assemble a squad of up to 4 soldiers, take command of them in thrilling close quarter combat, and bring them home alive.
Fight in typical World War 2 terrain; enter buildings for cover, set up effective ambushes and use the terrain against your opponents.
Clan-based competition: join an active, loyal and competitive community that has been around since the start of Call of Combat over 12 years ago.
The TAW Evolve Division is doing well, standing strong at over 40 members. Our compeditive team is currently preparing to compete in the upcoming ESL tournament. The team is getting stronger every day, and we are hoping to form a second team to compete as well. Finally, Evolve just recently got it first major update. It introduced the Tier 4 Hunters and the fourth monster, the infamous Behemoth.
Another great month for the Insurgency division. We were finally able to get a server for our EU battalion which hopefully means we can bring in more European members. Our NA battalion is not only growing, but thriving! As for the game itself, NWI released two new maps, “Station” and “Tell”, along with various bug fixes and improvements. Lastly, season 3 of the the DGL starts up soon. After our performance last season, we have been moved up to division 2! Watch out! We are headed to the top!
Battlefield: Hardline is on the Horizon
The BFH Horizon Team has made its way into Vanguard last week. Battlefield: Hardline is a heavily team-based First Person Shooter, Cops and Robbers translated to the Battlefield Style. We are still looking to fill DI and SO positions for NA and OC regions, so if you are interested in helping out to get our good name out in this new game please contact Metzger@taw.net.
In the past few weeks we've had some new recruits join our family, and they are great additions to the team! We appreciate the positivity that they bring to TAW and our small-but-growing spinup project. We have one internal transfer spot available for an EU Drill Instructor! No prior experience required - we'll get you trained up. We are looking for an organized, active, friendly person that likes talking to people and mentoring new members. If you are interested, contact Zoloft@taw.net. We are looking forward to the FPS module that is tentatively set for April 15 and the social module that is planned for May/June 2015. TAW is also starting a brief Inaugural Racing tournament in the next week or so, with a more extended FPS tournament after the big update in late April.
Ffaen [VG DO] | Vanguard Division Officer
Continuing on from last month, where we talked about getting a game into Vanguard, this month we will look at the first part of the Vanguard process, when a game is in Horizon (Tiers 3 & 4).
The Tiered system is used to prepare a game for launch, ensuring Spin Up Leaders receive the support that they need from the Vanguard staff. There are clear requirements for each tier before they can proceed towards launch, such as filling staffing positions and sorting out admin issues such as servers and qualification badge requirements.
Games enter Vanguard in Tier 4, where a core team is formed. Games are usually in Tier 4 from anywhere between a couple of days, to 2 weeks. The requirements for a game to be in tier 4 include:
1. The game must be suitable for TAW and interest must be reasonably high
2. Have fully researched the game and its' potential; to include any required information (i.e. paid servers, etc)
3. Game must be approved by VG staff and Army Command
4. A Spin-Up Leader (SUL) / VG Spin-Up Leader and/ or Staff Officer (SO) must be identified
5. In-game assets will be created, or control handed to VC/VLC, at the discretion of the VC
6. Unit must be added to Horizon Division on TAW site
7. Unit must be added to TAW application listing
8. Initial TeamSpeak channels must be added for unit in Horizon Division
9. Recruitment to public and internal transfers will not be open (staff transfers only)
10. Actively looking for staff; at least for an SO and DI
11. Spin-Up Meeting must be completed
When Spin Up Leader shows evidence that these requirements have been fulfilled, it will be moved to tier 3. In tier 3, the units leadership is trained and public recruitment started. This is the first real stepping stone to becoming a unit within TAW; it will have minimum leadership internally and will rely heavily on its' SUL / SO and VG staff. The conditions of Tier 3 are as follows:
1. Must have an SO and at least one DI in place
2. Actively open for public recruitment
3. Plans must be in place if game requires a TAW server
4. Unit must conduct weekly events or meetings with all members
With that, read on to see how our current units are going along. We have updates from all 6 of our current teams; [EV] Evolve, [INS] Insurgency, [GW] Guild Wars 2, [HW] Homeworld, [SCZ] Star Citizen.
Read on for more information on each of our teams. More detailed reports can be found in the upcoming edition of TAW’s monthly newsletter ‘From The Battlefield’ .
TAW's Evolve division has grown fast in its first month since spinning up. Evolve is now officially tier 2 and can accept internal transfers and is still in need of more officers from Europe or OC regions, if you are interested contact SixthGear. They now have competitive team setup and intend to be a force to be reckoned with in the tournament circuit. Finally, major patch has been announced which is intended to fix some bugs, and evens out the power levels of some characters which were overpowered or underpowered. An Observer Mode was announced as "Coming Soon" by a TRS press release on March 4th.
February was another exciting month for us. INS split off into two battalions allowing for growth in our leadership positions. The developers released an update this month to fix well needed bugs, glitches, and exploits. However, the most prominent part of this update was balance tweaks for the competitive leagues. Season two has started of the Digital Gaming League, while TAW weren't able to compete last year for various reasons, a team has been entered for this season!
Guild Wars 2
The old TAW Guild Wars 2 guild, from when TAW first had a presence in the game was donated to the EU platoon by previous leaders. A number of new recruits have also joined us this month.
After a few teething problems with the multiplayer option, Homeworld has gone from strength to strength. A significant number of recruits have joined TAW since launch. This is a great achievement and it goes to show the commitment of the team members to get new talent playing the game. At the moment we have been designing new logos for the ships. So, whatever rank you are within TAW will show on the ship that you fight with.
After a year of hiatus, Star Citizen Division has been resurrected as a Tier 4 Horizon team in Vanguard. One of the main issues surrounding the initial Spin Up in early-mid 2014 was that there was not enough content at that time for members to participate in together during the long pre-alpha stage of the game development process. Star Citizen is still in pre-alpha, but the amount of modules that have been released as well as the anticipated content throughout 2015 mean it can return to TAW. Members can currently group up together to do team-based dogfighting and racing modules and in the upcoming weeks we will be having an informal dogfighting tournament.
In the upcoming months events will be organised around new content to prepare for when the Persistent Universe (the sandbox MMO aspect of the game) launches.
As far as the upcoming content release timetable, the First Person Shooter Beta (being debuted right now at PAX East) is coming soon in Spring 2015 with the Planetside / Social Beta arriving soon after. Arena Commander 2.0 with multi-crew ships is anticipated for Summer 2015. Squadron 42, the Single-Player / Coop Campaign is coming Fall 2015. The Persistent Universe Alpha, the aspect of the game that we’re all waiting for, is planned for the End of 2015. The Full Game Launch is anticipated for 2016.

It is my pleasure to let you guys know that the Evolve team here in Vanguard still has a couple of staff positions to be filled.
Evolve has shown extensive growth since they joined Horizon. Currently Evolve has 35 members, 24 of those belong to the NA side. Due to Server match making the EU/OC side are in need of some motivated support to fill the ranks.
As they are still a Horizon team, they would not usually be accepting internal transfers from other divisions, however there are a handful of positions that are still open for transfer;
If you may be interested in taking up one of these positions within the evolve team, or have any questions regarding the team or positions, please contact Sixthgear@taw.net.
A Spin Up Meeting has been set for Star Citizen on Sunday 1st of March 21:00 GMT
If you're interested in this game please come along and join us in the meeting.
If you're unable to attend the meeting but would like more information, please contact the staff leader responsible for the unit or any other Vanguard staff.
