We've actually had a couple in the past, though for varying reasons none have worked out very well.

If you're interested in helping to get one together, your best option is to contact the training staff, in particular, OnQuack, to let him know.

This may be something to pursue starting in January.  My proposal would be entering the UGC highlander 9v9 tournament.  It's free and starting in the lowest division (Tin) would be a great way to enter the comp scene without it being super-high-pressure.  It would also give our members who play non-standard classes a chance to join in the fun instead of being limited to Soldier, Demo, Scout, and Medic.

Highlander ftw!

My team was out in the first etf2l bracket but we won our first match too (before taw.)

I love the pressure of competitive games, and I am a huge advocate of involving the less 1337 players in the game, they should not be intimidated and it is all good fun, especially when you know that spot you camped, not getting any kills, was an important part of the master plan.

And sure, a few mistakes will be made here and there, the only failure in that, would be if you didn't learn from it, so persevere, swallow your pride, and have a good time win or lose.

Also, i have only ever heard about the 6v6 scene in tf2, the whole standard setup seems shortsighted to me these days and anyone who employs that strategy should be constantly looking at ways to break it!

I have heard reasons against the off classes such as, pyro is moot compared to soldier, engineer is weak in comparison to soldier, repeat... even the demo man is considered a replaceable utility,.

I know that the pyro can single handedly tie up 2 or more soldiers and/or demos, and generally suppress and ambush everything, sure a soldier can too but he has that whole reloading thing going on, considering the default loadout a pyro has airblast capabilities over half the team! also more health than a scout and the ability to keep him out of point blank range.

Considering the team as a whole, if using a pyro, you would be best pairing him with an engineer to lock down an area and provide support to the remaining 4. You might even force the enemy team to break their cookie cutter, which is an amazing advantage if you can force it in a team that is too used to it :3

Or, you know, you could just have the default roam/pocket + medic + those other 3, the extra mobility helps pincers and distractions or ambushes, for sure, and it works.

Anyway if you missed my point, id love to play any competition, expect me to be unorthodox in my input though :P

Do or do not. There is no "Try."

I'd love to be in a Highlander match! It'd really give me a reason to hone my skills as a spy and work well in a group. Let me know if we start to get a team put together. ^^

Hey guys.

So Columbo and I are putting together a team for CEVO AND a highlander match.

CEVO: Looking into it now, but it looks like its 20$ per person to join. Team of 6. We would play in the amateur bracket. If you are interested. please let myself or Columbo know. Due to only have 6 slots, we are going to be somewhat pickey and you may have to try out against other people looking to get in. This is competitive match play and we will work on communication, map knowledge, identifying key points in a map, squad tactics, and overall kickassery. I know Im somewhat new to TAW, but I am not to TF2 or competitive gaming and squad leading.

HIGHLANDER: A lot more chill. In case you dont know, Highlander means 1 person per class on your team. SO we are looking for great players who want to experience comp play to join up. This will be a lot more laid back, but will be really good learning for everyone.

Looking forward to hearing from you all!
