To be fair guys,

Apparently the DayZ Community didn't even know about this change by BIS nor did they ask for it. Rocket himself with the next update to DayZ is actually going to modify the classes for the nerfed rifles to put them back to the values they were, unless BIS changes them back for their new 1.63 patch (lol) we could always do the same thing and run the addon client side for TAW members to put the values back.

But it is quite stupid that they would secretly nerf the guns and their response was they thought it wasn't relevant to acknowledge the change in their change log which is really giving them some bad PR

Tonight's mission will be handled, a server is already setup and ready for 1.62 and for those still on 1.60 there is one setup for that too.

I somehow get the feeling the value changes were snuck in as a prank on the community.

based on the weapon's damage value it only effect on pistol/smg and Ak series including Lee Enfield effected at this point. my only question was Why they nerf the weapons or based on people report on beta verison of 1.62 and BIS think they can nerf the stuff.

Still waiting on the Linux compatible update to be released by BIS fellas...thank you for your patience.

It will be interesting to see how all of this weapons stuff pans out -- there is a lot of speculation out there -- seems as if all combatant units will now assume some sort of armor value. The value changes also meant to "fix" an issue where the speed and damage of rounds over distance were not correct to begin with, and were over-inflated. However, I was under the impression that that bug meant more weapons were affected than just the ones here. We shall see.

Read more here:

It may not be all bad, but without getting too far into the debate about what a headshot does or the ballistics of whatever, my long shot is that their adjustments are in odd preparation for Arma 3, where it's been confirmed there's some level of life-like armor variation/customization. Otherwise they wouldn't have bothered with any balancing on weapons values.

We should assume that any lack of clarification/documentation on BIS' part is only because they're working so hard on the 1.62 Linux update Surprise and that it does take trial and error for things to evolve positively. Therefore we should take solace in the fact that our beloved studio is paying close attention to the effects, will revert or adjust things as necessary, and will look after our game in the long run -- I know it would take a much more than a couple of these circumstances to turn me away from my favorite series!

Funny for them, they didn't have to use suppressed Bizons for tonight's mission.  Set it to full auto and let 'er rip, you might put your man down before he wakes up from his nap and radios the whole island that you're there.

Thanks for the compliments Eomak. The money and time costs of hosting them and maintaining the missions isn't cheap. The feedback means a lot.

Hah didn't know you had such a humorous side Freight Stick out tongue it should come out more often! I do love the suppressed Bizon though, always try to nab it off of Spetsnaz in our Chernarus mission -- a good challenge because you rarely find the Spetsnaz traveling alone unlike the general Russian soldiers.

We may have to grow used to a "harder" AI beyond the ASR AI we feature because of the need to try and outplay them in CQB situations now, firing longer at each target to punch through their armor. Or of course beat them to a headshot...I say as long as it goes both ways and the AI can't one shot you by hitting your big toe while spinning prone in the middle of a doorway, I'm down for the challenge. Overall I would say that the necessary character response and control needed to do this cleanly is difficult in Arma 2 and that this is something everyone is looking forward to having fun with in Arma 3.

I've put up a temporary server until the 1.62 patch comes out for Linux.

Look for "TAW.net - The Art of Warfare - US - Takistan: OA Domination 1.62 Temporary Server"

A linux alpha version has been released this afternoon. Keep your fingers crossed that the feedback is positive and that if there's any fixes they can happen to get this through to beta and final quickly! Beer

I thought I would post an update (more like a blog post :P) on here even though there is no update and I did not want to get everyone's hopes up with a new post...so here's me keeping up the communication because I know we've had several players ask.

The situation remains grim for Linux servers and Arma.

Our own team is aggressively pursuing alternative options. At the same time as this, it appears we may have been foolishly optimistic that our favorite developer will pull through because we continue to see no progress on the 1.62 alpha version of Linux in addition to a growing sense that we're a part of the Arma community who is being discarded by BIS.

Not sure who posted this or what community it's from, but the posts like this that keep surfacing surely states that we and other prominent Arma communities are not the only ones who are growing more concerned by the day.

What I've been witnessing on their own forums is really just the outcry of the Linux part of the Arma community that I think continues to grow in strength, perhaps (and hopefully) shocking BIS themselves enough to change the value they have assigned to supporting Linux in their game. While normally the thing to do now is call for all of you, as even more of their customers, to voice their support of Linux or communities who use the option, however, I fear that this approach has only been met with cynicism and a poor attitude by the forum's own moderators.

There are only a few things that have proven clear thus far:

1) We currently do not have a working alternative nor could prepare one because of the lack of "heads up" about the 1.62 update from BIS. Though we are working on a fairly acceptable backup solution at this point.

2) The way the update was pushed out meant that for the most part the entire community remains split, and unable to easily rollback to a working version (e.g. Steam & ACE). Communities as large as us are not quick to go with a choice that means the scores of our members would only be able to play on servers running a past version just to play our events. You see how it kinda kills the MP experience?

3) BIS' lack of care for even the most vague press releases paired with some unsettling comments about being unsure themselves of the amount of time Linux could be delayed in future releases has led to abrupt uneasiness with a majority part of the multiplayer scene.

To BIS I say this:

Maruk, you wrote: "...we simply are not able to guarantee Linux servers to be released at the same time as its Windows counterpart."

Fair enough. But the thing is you CAN guarantee that the Windows updates are released with the Linux counterpart. At least an approach like this wouldn't split up your community; after all, it is all we (and you) have!

Now, before that sinks in too far and begins to sound selfish, think about the community. This same community plays a game survived by the mods it personally releases. It's the same community that keeps playing MP day in and day out, an aspect that keeps a game relevant and worth late adopters buying it. Yes, the same community making the whole DayZ thing possible and worth that too. The same community that has probably pledged (before this occurred) its undying faith in Arma 3, a game that the community will most likely help outlast it's predecessor we play now. The community is single-handedly one of the most critical parts of Arma and whose cross-section it only makes sense to analyze and gather statistics about for decision-making that will shape the game's future. This is a proven cycle of success everywhere which can be costly to deviate from.

Is there any update change more pressing to get out to Windows immediately that makes it worth your community to be split up like this? I can not think of any, but we hope you had before making the decision. We all hope you had done the calculations, weighed the scales, and indeed have the best interests in mind for your future. Trust is a terrible thing to gamble. All these forum threads, these informal requests for information, were based on the same idea: we want to be prepared to make the best decision for ourselves. As I read the comments that spawn up on your forum from day-to-day about this update that blind-sided many a Linux admin, I personally fear the repercussions of your call is going to be a tough one for other admins to get over; other communities to have the passion and drive to get through; and the relationship between the faithful followers and you proving to be tougher than you first thought to heal.

No one likes feeling caught off-guard. The responses have been pointed or become "heated" only because we care so much and we have a lot at stake including time and money.

The players who post there and hold discussions from every locked thread to every locked thread have one thing in common: they just want answers. As I brought up earlier, this could have been in the form of some lame-sounding, broad-covering press releases. We just wanted to be noticed; to be shown that you care. But you haven't even done that to pacify (again) what is shaping up to be a strikingly large portion of your customer base. I think you have given this community an answer already: that you can no longer guarantee the needs of this portion of the community will be considered in your future, and that based on the average of your past care for that community I think we just don't want to believe it...

Also, a major function of communication or reaction such as should now be directed at preventing similar instances from happening in the future. Let's courteously and strategically figure out the foundation that BIS stands on so we aren't led to believe one thing; so we aren't confused about words like support; so we know the risks or consequences of our decisions more clearly. Expectations were badly assumed by both parties in this situation.

As for us? We'll adapt and overcome -- I feel like we've done that from day one. I think we'll be up and running shortly; though, at a reduced performance and with a bad taste in our mouths. I only hope that in cases like these where the customer is always right and dictates whether something sinks or swims, that it's those same customers who don't veer left, leave the out of the frustration of their voices being stifled, and then decreasing the experience for all :\

Your move BIS. You've moved the chess piece but your hand is still on it. A core part of your community has been, is now, and will continue to be watching closely.
