What is Arma?
Arma 2 or Arma II (sometimes incorrectly referred to as Armed Assault 2) is a tactical military simulation (rather than a game, according to its creators, Bohemia Interactive Studio). Currently, our division plays the latest version, Arma 2: Combined Operations. Compared to most First Person Shooter games, Arma is often considered more tactical and slower-paced. Teamwork is not just helpful, it's central. It is considered the spiritual successor in the Operation Flashpoint series, following its predecessor, ArmA: Armed Assault (ArmA: Combat Operations in North America).
Arma 2 was released in June and July 2009. An expansion pack titled Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead was released in 2010. In June 2011, a free-to-play version of the game was released, featuring multiplayer and limited single-player modes. "Combined Operations" (known in Arma circles as simply "CO") is basically Arma 2 + the Operation Arrowhead expansion all together.
Arma 3 is slated to be released in 2013.

TAW Arma | Tactical focus. Strategic excellence.
As Arma's co-op professionals, our slogan 'Tactical focus. Strategic excellence.' best sums up the mentality of our roster, custom missions, and the reason we attract gamers from around the world. Our slogan highlights the two most important aspects of our unit: The seriousness in which we play tactically, paired with our pursuit to earn success as a team strategically. It's the distinction between our game as a "Mil-Sim" versus a "First Person Shooter." It stands for the unmatched quality of discipline we bring to our briefings and events, ultimately making our mission experiences awesome and a joy to be immersed in. It represents the unparalleled training opportunities and exercises our members have because we believe in improving and enlarging our skill sets individually and as a team. It means we don't tolerate any hint of drama or sense of entitlement because those are distractions to our team's success. Lastly, these words serve to recognize the teamwork required at every level to tackle the challenging objectives in Arma; that the selfless, will-serve-where-needed, cooperative gaming is more rewarding for everyone instead of just the few who happen to be at the top of a "scoreboard."
The Art of Warfare (TAW) is a home for those tired of compromise. TAW Arma currently features teams for both North American and European time zones. Our teams gather weekly to have fun playing the most popular military simulator on the PC the way it's meant to be played.
By now you're probably wondering what one of our missions look like. Our events typically run non-stop for 2 hours or more and occur about twice a week in either a mandatory or optional form. These events take place on our own private servers configured -- more often than not -- with missions developed by our own in-house talent and whose idea was even driven by the creativity of a member. The style, frequency, and length of this regimen has proven to build camaraderie and reward teamwork beyond that of communities who focus on only one aspect of Arma's battlefield.
Our larger missions require a greater investment of strategy and coordination among various to achieve stepping stone-like objectives, while our smaller missions might allow for squads and fire teams to run it multiple ways and fine-tune their tactics to strive for higher levels of success and more moments of epicness. Get an action-packed cross-section of what our events look like by checking out the videos in the next section.
Let's get you into the action!
Below are videos as recorded by our members during their weekly event nights. They are not edited show our best plays or coolest moments; this is how we play. The videos are captured from the perspective of a member in 1 fire team, a force that is 4 men strong and half of an 8 man squad (on average) -- one of our most basic tactical elements on the field. Adapt & Overcome!
The Mission: This video features members from our 1st Battalion North American team. The video is a longer one showcasing multiple objectives, but provides great insight about the scale of our larger missions. In short, several squads have coordinated to assault a large hillside city to secure a vantage point from opposition forces, capture intelligence items, and fend off a huge counter-attack. The action begins at 6:30!
