Second class dilemma

I'm having a lot of trouble finding another class that I enjoy playing, mostly because I am in love with how the Tech plays in this game (Thumper and turrets? Sure!). I've tried all of the classes in their basic load-outs and was wondering if the play style of the Tech can be mimicked in a more offensive-based class. Bare in mind that I don't have money or XP to be throwing around like candy to unlock whatever I need so it will take some time to grab everything.

First of all, why do you want a second class if you love the tech so much :P? Is it to be flexible?

At any rate, all classes are unique. Some more then others.

The onces that are most distinctively unique are in my opinion are Infiltrator and Sentinel, Closely followed by Technician and Pathfinder.

The thing with the Technician is that is has a very similar load out to Soldier (I know people might wonder what I mean but offensively it is)

If you use the Thumper and the Shotgun with grenades as a Technician they play out very similar to the Soldier.

If you want to play similar to Tech but with solider I would go with the Assault Rifle or the Gast's Rifle as main (Depending on play-style. They got same DPS but different clip-size and different damage.) Secondary you should take Thumper DX. It has very similar damage and speed to the Technician Thumper but less ammo.

Then I would use Utility Pack and Frag Grenade XL. The Frag Grenade XL has little more damage then the TCGN and bigger radius, but does not explode on impact.

I would not say that is the best setup for Soldier, but it is the one most alike Technician in play-style but more offensive.

This is all my own opinion thou, but Soldier is also a good choice for the onces with "smaller pockets" when it comes to XP and Gold.

Yea it really is to just be flexible and to be able to do more than just defend. I've lost count of how many times I've lost pub games because we had almost nobody on offense. I love the high damage of the explosives and the ability to fire and hide away before it explodes, rinse repeat for base asset destruction. The Raider caught my eye simply because it's a beefier Medium class.

i would rather use the quick-fuse grenades with the soldier. they are easier to use, and often catch people off guard.

Can you imagine what i would do if i could do all i can?

I love the quick-fuse grenades on the Tech, best way I have to kill a heavy.

Hey Krenko, I am primarily a Tech, secondarily a Pathfinder, and third a Juggernaut. Why? Because I didn't want to spend cash or XP on other classes either. (Plus my PC Specs don't let me duel too well.)

If what you want is to go on the offensive then that depends on what your play style is. Some people prefer dueling, others prefer being the deciding factor on a win, others like to harass blindly, and others like to be the main support for other team members. I'm the last one, which is why I miss being able to repair teammates like I used to play in T2. That's why I play Tech most of the time. Switch to Pathfinder when the flag cappers aren't doing too good. And use Juggernaut to support offense if I hear that the enemy defense is too strong.

But each person is different. For mid-field dueling go with the soldier. For overall harassment and offensive go with the raider (try jugg before buying brute so you see if you like heavys). If you want to become offensive support then learn to play jugg and take out assets and defenses from a distance.

No matter what you pick though, remember that until you have the class fairly well upgraded you'll feel much weaker than your tech. I would invest in a boost for 30 or 90 days and get that XP rolling in. :)

you can mimic the tech pretty much exactly with the soldier.

You already have the assult gun and thumper unlocked.  So just that him out for a spin near the enemy base.  That being said, i would use either the short fuse or the proximity nades for the soldier.

Also, you can mess around in the training/practice mode with everything unlocked

I almost never use the jug, but i really like the other heavies (brute for indoors/doom for outdoors)

The best xp farming method ive found is to be a brute with looter and survivalist with extended fractals.  Then chill in the ENEMY base (sometimes with the enemy flag to really encourage them to come die to the fractals).  This works better on some maps then others and works REALLY well if you can have a buddy help out doing it.  After you farm the XP you can use it to play whatever you want.

In terms of offence, i recommend  one of two things
infs on pub games (if there are not already a million of them) because as a tech, you know how you would defend against them and thus know what NOT to do as an inf (and it helps your tech defence skills too to see how the other side operate)

Offencive Tech.
You have the thumper, you have the nades, you have a buddy who shoots for 65 damage and NEVER misses.  You can either have a secondry weapon or the repair gun (i recomend the second weapon cause if you have a repair gun you will feel like you SHOULD use it and that stationary time is probably not a good idea when you're offenceive) .  My advice is that if your gen is up when you spawn, drop a turret somewhere VAGULY useful (near an inventory station maybe) then head out with another in your kit.  Shoot at people with your thumper/nades and if your about to die then drop the turret OR if you get into a nice spot (ie there base ) then drop it there and ambush them when they come for you (if nothing else you should get an aftermath)
