I want all TAW members to fly choppers and I can't stand when non taw members fly choppers and crash on purpose in base with no flying skills.

if you start banning stuff, there will allways been people unhappy and want somthing else banned.

Crispen wants to get rid of helis for non taw, then someone else would want all cars / tanks to be taw as people would switch to crashing them into stuff... and so on.

a better idea would be to force the 10min timer on all vehicles.

Crispen, its hard to make everyone happy. It is a shame that people choose to crash helicopters and for lack of a better term "grief" in base but we can't stop all of it. You have to understand admins don't act under hearsay, try to be lenient in most cases and not all TAW members are admins.  Peter said it well, if you decide to lock all the helicopters then people are going to riot and our server will probably stop being populated. Then when people start griefing in tanks are we to lock them too? Also, when starting a new thread please try to be descriptive, just telling what you want isn't really going to get things moving anywhere.

Admins are trying, but we're very busy

I believe in our next update of the mission we will require players who want to fly to either have a certain score or time in server before they're able to do so. We're not interested in a "pilot flying only server" because we understand how frustrating it would be for non-pilots who are good at flying to have to rejoin through the lobby just to fly for their squads.

We haven't yet found the best solution to this because -- as it's been stated -- we could end up down a path of restricting/locking everything. But it sounds like we need to start somewhere and tweak it from there. For now the flag pole has always been a feasible option of getting to the AO or Side Missions without the use of player-controlled (or lack of control!) transport.

Let's keep discussing ideas here if we can.

<_< I wish jets could be unlocked for non TAW members with a score over 300 and +1 hour on the server.

For now no one gets to fly until BIS can be convinced that Linux servers are just as if not more important for Arma's MP community than Windows servers... everyone can help this by respectfully and maturely voicing your support for your favorite servers that are running Linux in places like their own forums Yes

Madpeter:

We've tried many options over a year ago to make jets available to public players. Unfortunately, while we know there are decent pilots out there, it always ends up the same way: either used as a tool to wreck the AO / Side Mission or by TK'ing. The Apache has become an instrument in the same way with players even TK'ing others just to get it...

With that said, we've thrown around a few ideas about how to tracking and hold a player accountable for the privilege. We could allow access for certain players who prove themselves to be capable of responsible CAS to sign up and maintain that promise by showing an investment of something in some way. One idea has been that players who subscribed in donating to our servers could be considered. Anyone out there interested in something like this?

I think what would certainly be a shout is a couple of small choppers set aside, that do not auto respawn, and only for the use of TAW tagged members that are able to be utilised for squads wanting to practice using the side mission. Nothing worse than having finished a mission, finding that the chopper you took has disappeared, and you have to beg server users to come and rescue you!

Just an idea I had a while back! :P

I know that unskilled pilots crashing aircraft is an issue, but mostly not one big enough to result in a kick/ban, hey, they have to learn some how. As for the players deliberately trying to ruin the gaming experience by using the aircraft as a tool for teamkilling, is there a way that you can enabled a "pilot ban" or "pilot temporary ban"?. This would be a great way to stop griefing, as it would temporarily (or permanently) disallow the selected user to fly. I'm not sure if this is possible to implement into the game, but i'm just throwing out and idea.

Well, there is several ways to learn how to fly, without using server resources for it. Armory or editor for example. I dont see why it should be accetped on a public server, when there is tools for it.

Maybe some script that would dictate that a "vehicle driver/gunner ban" would initiate on that user if they destroyed X number of vehicles in a given time?

I'm no scripter... but maybe it's the only fair way?

Sounds like a good idea, Edd, but I know that would mean that I wouldn't be able to fly. Whenever I play domi I will carry around satchels or use the A10 to take downed choppers when the engineers aren't doing their jobs (a lot of the time). This usually means I run up scores of around -80 points. You also have to remember that in the event of crashes & collisions, more often than not a person that wasn't responsible will have the kills attributed to them.

I was discussing about creating a system to prevent crashing choppers into other things at the base a few days ago with JonBons (AM 1's Server Administrator) but with ArmA there is no real fool proof system that can be made to prevent it, there may of course be false positives, etc. May start experimenting with a system some time soon..
