The Wonderful World of Custom Faces
Hey there guys,
Because I use one myself and would love to see more people with them (so people can be recognised without having to use the ingame nametags and they are just awesome) I will show you a few ways to get yourself a custom face for Arma 2 without the need of mods. This means that these custom faces can be used on the majority of the servers, yes even Day Z servers, unless they specifically turned off custom files (this can be due to strain on the server or they just dont want silly faces).
Let's get started.
Creating your face:
So to start we will need a template face, there are a few ways to get one. The easiest way it to use this one.
This one is resized to fit the page more properly, use the following link for the 1024x1024 one.

So what you can do now is open MSPaint and draw that awesome handlebar mustache you always wanted but could never grow those darn facial hairs. I have already editted this template face to have a more darker skin when it is used ingame. There is a known issue with certain graphics cards (mostly ATI ones if I recall correctly) that make jpg files used for the custom face alot paler than you initially made them.
But for those who dont feel like using MSPaint and have access to Photopshop I suggest you download this:

This Photoshop file already has some extra edits like a mask, gloves, a different haircut and some tattoos. But those are never as fun as a totally homemade one.
A few tips:
And then you have your fully editted face. What do I do with that you ask, well I shall tell you.
You go to My Documents / Arma 2 (or My documents / Arma 2 Other Profiles) and find the folder that has the name of your main profile that you use.
You save your custom face as Face.jpg in that folder and make sure its not bigger than 100KB. This might seem small especially for an image with a resolution of 1024x1024 but this wont lose alot of quality when it is used ingame. Just dont go crazy on the effects.
You then start the game and go to the player profile. Under the tab where you can select different face choose the option "Custom Face". If you did the previous steps right it should show your custom face (the colors in here can be darker than they are ingame). From there you can add the glasses if you want.
You are now ready to surprise everyone with your new and improved custom face!
Made these myself btw (currently using the middle one).
wow amazing
Great write-up Talvi!
I'm thinking this should be highlighted in our wiki pages or at least stickied.
This is great but I tried to log on the server with a custom cigarette mod and it didnt let me!
I have added all the faces I've worked with so far (except the one 'm curently using) to a dropbox photoalbum.
I will add more when I feel that it is time for a new one.
In the mean time, feel free to use these for yourself.

If you look online there is an imgur album that has several, I use the Guy Fawkes skin, has a QR Code on the back of the guy's neck that I have yet to investigate.
Got a link for that album imgur album?

I tried this and didn't have any luck, I followed the instructions but nothing happened, When I go to the game and try to edit my face I don't see the Custom Face option. Its not in the available selections. Am I missing something?
I thought it prudent to put this here too.
please do NOT use custom faces during AM2 practices as they can cause extra server strain that stops people being able to get into the game.
When I open up my documents, and then go to Arma 2 I don't see a folder called Flippin. I see a document labeled with my name that is unreadable by my computer, but that is it. I downloaded Arma2: CO from steam if that makes a difference.
Go to documents. there should be 2 folders then. Arma 2 and Arma 2 Other Profiles. Check out the Other Profiles folder.
Nothing. I can't find anything on it. Any other suggestions?Bah, I was looking forward to using these.
