I often join the TAW server around afternoon time and have come to realize that there needs to be a stronger TAW presence there. I join and there are multiple people purposely teamkilling, people flying for the first time crashing into everything, and people spamming over the mic when other players are trying to play the game the way it should be played. I entered the server and the staging area was a battleground and I was dead before I could even get my loadout. Somethings gotta give.
Hey Sabertooth, welcome to our forums.
We'll look into what we can do admin-wise for those hours. We do offer a thread to deal with issues when there isn't a TAW member (who is an admin) available to reach in-game. Our reporting thread is here: http://taw.net/forums/t/5633.aspx
Here is my humble suggestion. Give more TAW players limited admin capabilities. If you gave every TAW member the ability to issue 15 minute bans, the problem would go away. Here's why:
1. It's rare to see the server not have a single TAW member, but frequently there are TAW online but no admins.
2. The kids who cause the problems probably have the attention span of a gnat and HDD/ADD. Fifteen minutes probably seems like an eternity to them and they will go find somebody else to annoy to get the daily required dose of attention.
3. Even if a mistake is made or a new TAW member abuses it, it's just 15 minutes.
The only reason I see for not doing this is technical limitations (i.e. there is no way to have different tiers of admin).
well Shifty we do have a bouch of TAW members that have admin access... but before you say anything else, remember that they have work, school, friends etc, now real life comes before gaming, about the admin situation, you can find me always in Teamspeak, all you need to do is send me a PM and tell me if there is a Trouble maker on the server... as well as other admins, you can find most of the admins on Teamspeak, but if you dont know the TS IP then ask them about it when you see them next time on the server.
and also we cant just give ALL TAW members admin access, we need to be sure that they WONT abuse their admin rights specially when it comes to banning.
if you are not 100% sure who to contact then pls take a min ore so to check this out: http://taw.net/unit/2172.aspx it will direct you to a page were you will see all current TAW members with admin access on our servers.
Don't get me wrong. I think TAW does a great job. I'll make note of the admin contact procedures it's just my thinking that if the problem can be nipped quickly (without drastic measures like perma bans) it can't prevent the server from devolving into chaos while an admin is being retrieved.
While I tend to agree with your 15 mintue ban suggestion (often I have heard the frustrations of admins having to sit here kicking the same troll over an over because they come back) I'm nost sure giving everyone Admin access is the way to go.
Best situation I think if you having problems is to log into teamspeak, scroll down to arma and message on of the admins, obviously you can do that using the game admin list, then they can help you when the problem is actually happening.
Get screenshots etc if you can, or if its something we can check the logs for.
Sorry to hear this issue is still present, it is the primary reason why I became an admin. I'm trying to be on as much as possible, and if there is an issue know that you can ALWAYS grab me on TS when I'm on and I'll come no matter what (unless there is a practice going on). And though it seems that the griefers never go away (trust me, it seems that way when you spend a full domination game just adminning), know that more dedicated admins are starting to step up, like Talvi and Azayah. And we are still banning people almost every day :)

^ This pretty much... for now anyway..
I like some of your ideas though too. I am of the same thinking that removing the bad eggs as quickly as possible even if it's not perm and even if they weren't truly at fault, can help overall. It's a fine line to tread however because even just getting kicked tends to bring about the return of a frustrated player; the good ones who value being able to play on our servers shouldn't mind this if it worked of course.
im down to ban some people :) Just sayin
I see a problem with just creating more admins.Watching the current admins on the servers I notice a lot of them are creating their own rules which don't comply with the taw server policy.
So i am suggesting that we setup a Admin training program to eliminate any unacceptable behavior. Also In my opinion only people that hold a position should have access to the server as an admin since they already have more responsibilities then a normal member. Furthermore I suggest that we only assign admins who are in TAW longer then 3 months.
Arma Division | 2nd battalion | Commanding Officer
Sign me up for admin training!
That's a great idea.
I've not been in for three months yet tho. :-(
Also it seems a few of the admins are very young!
What is the minimum age limit?
ARGAR
Argar, there is not a defined age limit as far as I know. Back when I joined I became admin as a PFC pretty much right off the bat and was relatively young (15). It is more based off maturity and as you move up in the ranks and positions you get more responsibility and privileges.
I believe the only issue is ARGAR Naguar our SA has implemented I believe you must be Lance Corporal and above to gain admin on the Servers. Though I wouldn't quote me on that.
OK. No probs! I kinda like the idea of TAW and plan on sticking around for a while,
I'm happy being a grunt PFC for now . :-)
