Passwords

How do I recover my password for NextGen?
You need to click on sign in on the top right of your page, and then click the “I forgot my password” link (or click the shortcut below). Fill out your email address and submit. After up to 15 min check your email and follow the instructions provided (it usually takes more like 3 min).

Shortcut: http://taw.net/user/EmailForgottenPassword.aspx

What to do now that I recovered my password and still cannot log in to NextGen?
The most likely scenario is you are doing one of two things:

•You are trying to log in with _TAW in your user name. This is not correct. Your user name is simply the call sign that you registered with when you joined TAW.

•You are not typing your username or password correctly. Passwords are case sensitive.

If you still cannot log in, recover your password again, paying special attention to how you entered your password.

If this still fails, contact your CoC for assistance.

How do I change my password on NextGen?
You need to log into your NG account and click on your name on the top right of the screen. Navigate to the “Password and Statistics” Tab. Click on change password and follow the prompts.

Top

Do I have to change it on the Black Pages / TFO Pages also to make them match?
No, as soon as you change your password on TAW.net it automatically syncs with your TAWmembers account. Currently the only difference is in the login. TAW.net uses just your callsign, but TAWmembers (or the black web pages) uses Callsign_TAW instead. The NG team is working to remove this difference in an upcoming patch.

With the sync enabled, you can no longer “change” your TAWmembers password separately, this feature has been disabled.

Top

How do I recover my password for the Black Pages / TFO pages but I can login NextGen?
You cannot “recover” it anymore. This feature has been disabled, as people were confusing it for the TAW.net login credentials.

You can however change your TAWmembers (black pages) password by changing your TAW.net password. This will sync them up and make them the same.

Forums

How do I add a URL in the forums?
To create a URL link in the forums. Type in the text that would best indicate where or what the link is for. By selecting the text that will become the link options now become available the link tool which looks like chain links and unlink tool which looks like a broken chain link. When the link button is clicked an edit box will open with 3 fields the first field is where the URL is added. The second field is the option to open in current window or to open in a new window, and the third field is used for a title. The title will show up when a viewer hovers over the link. To unlink a URL select the text indicating the link and click the unlink tool this will remove the URL.

Blogs

How do I create a blog?
Currently, we are not allowing any new blogs on the website. The exception is for new Units (Divisions, Guilds, Etc.). A blog is automatically created for these units.

Top

How do I post in a blog?
Currently only the leadership of a unit (Division, Guild, Etc.) can post on the blogs. Individual members can be granted access, but you need approval from your CoC.
If you do have the correct access, you should first navigate to the blog you want to post into by using the main TAW.net menus as follows: Community-> Blogs. Select the blog you want to post into and then choose “Write a Blog Post” under the Common Tasks menu on the right of the screen.
This will take you to the posting tool that will allow you to compose your message. Remember, this tool uses HTML, so it is very powerful. Fill out the page and then select the “Publish” button to post.

Top

How do I get a Blog post to show up on the Front Page Announcements?
You need to use the tags Frontpage; Announcements; Active in the post you create. Also see http://taw.net/forums/t/4219.aspx for more detailed help. If you want the unit icon to show up rather than a generic, see How do I get a Blog post on the front page to have its own graphic? .

Top

How do I get a Blog post on the front page to have its own graphic?
Every unit in TAW (Divisions, Guilds, Etc.) has its own 2 digit code. If you include the appropriate tag for the unit, the proper graphic will be included. For example: BF; Frontpage; Announcements; Active would give you an announcement from BF with the BF icon.

How do I add picture to my division's blog?
Make sure you can post in the blog first, see How do I post in a blog? for more info. When you can post, you need to use the editor of HTML to add your graphic.

There are two ways to add a graphic to NG. The first is to link to a graphic that is hosted someplace other than TAW.net. To add this kind of graphic, use HTML or click on the “Insert/Edit” Image button (it looks like a tiny tree). This will allow you to specify the URL of where the file is located, its dimensions, borders, and a bunch of other options. Once you click insert, the file will become part of your post.

The other way to add an image to a post is to use the “Content Selector” to grab a picture that is already hosted on NG. As divisional command you can request access to the divisional Photo Galleries to host your pictures.

Applications

What happens during the applications process?
A detailed guide has been written that shows the entire process. It can be read at http://taw.net/forums/t/2495.aspx . Once the recruit has accepted the welcome letter and completed his bootcamp what are the next steps? The DI needs to tell the NG system that the recruit has passed boot camp. This is accomplished by going to the member site ( http://www.theartofwarfare.net/TAWmember ) and selecting the correct unit, and then choosing the “Grant Recruit TS Access” option. Find and select the Recruit's name. The Recruit will then log into TAW.net with the same username and password they already registered with. They will then use the Member menu to generate a TS account. They will receive their info as a Private Message.

Top

What do I need to do to pass the new recruit?
There are two stages to “passing” a recruit. The first stage is completed by the DI immediately following the successful completion of the boot camp. See Once the recruit has accepted the welcome letter and completed his bootcamp what are the next steps? for more info on how to complete this step. The second stage is completed by officers after the recruit has passed his/her probationary period.

Membership

How would I transfer to another division?
Transfers to another division/guild/group will occur as follows:
1. Members wishing to transfer to another division will make the request through their Chain of Command.
2. The Divisional Commander (DC)/Guild Captain (GC)/Project or Resource Manager (PM/RM) of the sending division/guild contacts the DC/GC/PM/RM of the receiving division/guild. If the DC/GC/PM/RM is not available the request should be sent to the Corps/Legion Commander of that Division/Guild.
3. The DC/GC/PM/RM of the receiving division/guild can accept or reject the request. If accepted, the DC/GC/PM/RM of the sending division/guild executes the transfer. If rejected, the DC/GC/PM/RM of the sending division/guild notifies the member and no transfer is executed.

How do I change my TAW name/callsign?
The simplest way to do this is to talk to your CoC about changing your name. Tell them the new call sign you want to use and get permission to talk to your unit leader (DO/DC, GCC/GC, Etc.). They are the only ones that can change your name for you.

The way they do it is to have you sit in TS with them while they discharge your old account. They then have you apply with the new name. They will approve your application and walk you through all the boot camp steps. Following that, they will then go into the TFO pages and look up your old record. They will then cut and paste in your dossier after they promote you to your old rank. Then they will give you your old medals and badges and move you into your old unit (battalion/squad etc.) Also, you must regenerate your TS account using the main TAW.net menu options.

Top

How does a previous member return to TAW?
The former member would sign up for a web account on NextGen with the callsign they want. Once they have a web account they would apply for membership (as any new recruit) during that time they should include that he/she was a former member and include their previous callsign. The DC/DO  would go to the TFO pages and look for the previous discharged member account once clicked it will bring up his/her previous membership information. (discharge type, rank, medals, and history). Members that meet the reinstatement policy their information would have to be added to the new account. (rank, medals, and a copy of the members history)

I have forgotten my TS Account password or lost my info. What do I do?
You recreate your TS account by logging into TAW.net. Go to the Member menu and select the “Generate TS Account” option from the dropdown. Follow the prompts. Immediately following this you should check your private messages on TAW.net. Click on the link that says “Inbox” on the very top right of your screen, and you will see a private message with your new information.

Your old account was automatically deleted by the system, so don't worry about it. It was replaced with your new one!

Top

How do I create a TS account for the new recruit?
You don't “create” it for them anymore with the NG System. You grant them access to the member menu option to create their own TS account. Details on how to do that can be found I have forgotten my TS Account password or lost my info. What do I do?.
