A History of TAW

A History of TAW


It is unlikely that you will find a gaming community out there that can talk about being around since early 2001. TAW has a long history of adapting and improving it's structure, keeping pace with the changing winds of PC gaming.

 

THE ART OF WARFARE CLAN HISTORY

2001 "The Art Of Warfare" name is first used by a group of players who play Delta Force together. Wedge and Omega are two players in that group.
06 Mar 2001 Application begin to get screened for 1st Squad (A Delta Force Squad) for The Art Of Warfare (TAW) Clan. Development of the TAW website begins.
13 Mar 2001 theartofwarfare.net domain is purchased. The TAW website is moved from www.exade.com/artofwarfare to its new domain name.
15 Mar 2001 The TAW website is officially launched.
  The 1st division in TAW is Delta Force (DF).
28 Mar 2001 The TAW website is in the news. Note that they refer to Captain Wedge (co-founder of TAW). At the time of TAW's creation a Captain was the highest rank in TAW.
Summer/Fall 2001 TAW creates Task Force Operations (TFO) as a board to oversee all TAW related business.
  TFO approves its 2nd division: Ghost Recon Division (GR).
  The two divisions in TAW are DF and GR.
27 Dec 2001 Task Force Operations (TFO) restructures divisions by time zones and approves the expansion of the European Theater of operations.

14 Jan 2002

Europe vs US TAW Internal Tournament in Delta Force and Ghost Recon divisions played.
25 Jan 2002 1st female joins TAW. REC Potty's Lass joins the Emeral Squad (A Delta Force Squad, European Division)
06 Feb 2002 TAW member dossiers is launched (General member info only displayed, no medals)
04 Mar 2002 967,976 hits in the month of Feb for the TAW website. Served over 7GBs of information.
23 Mar 2002 First recorded academy is the Demolitions Academy which starts with Monday night training at 8PM EST.
27 Jun 2002 America's Army (AA) is available for download (free) for the first time at 220 megs and includes 10 maps. TAW would not make AA into an official game until 2005.
24 Jul 2002 TFO approves its 3rd division: The Battlefield Division (BF).
22 Aug 2002 TAW website receives the GoldenWeb Award 2002-2003.

04 Jan 2003 TFO approves its 4th division: The Raven Shield (RS) division.
27 Jan 2003 The Medal of Honor is bestowed to LowFlyer
27 May 2003 Subdomains begin to work on the TAW website (eg. news.theartofwarfare.net).
30 May 2003 First attempt to create a TAW Manual that would encompass all TAW sims is discussed by Darthmaul_TAW. No information available if such a manual was ever created.
13 Jul 2003 TAW opens a tourney and maps website at www.theartofwarfare.org (no longer active).
05 Aug 2003 The TAW PX is re-designed and more items are added.

07 Aug 2003

TFO approves a new structure for TAW in which zones will be used to divide the world and divisions.
11 Sep 2003 The Division Officer of the Year Award is announced and will be given on Jan 2004 (DO of the Year 2003).
12 Sep 2003 A new FLASH introduction to TAW is showcased on the website. Personal recollection of Lowflyer advises that this was the 3rd version of a TAW FLASH Introduction.
15 Sep 2003 The 10,000th post in the forums is reached.
07 Nov 2003 TFO approves its 5th division: the Call of Duty Division (CD).
11 Nov 2003 TFO approves its 6th division: Lock On: Modern Air Combat (LO) and its 7th division: Joint Operations Division (JO).

04 Jan 2004 DO of the Year (2003) is awarded to Foxtrot (Fox).
04 Mar 2004 TAW merchandise is now available for purchase via the TAW PX.
09 Mar 2004 JO division opens its doors for recruits.
14 Mar 2004 TFO to begin to hold weekly meetings.
  TFO approves its 8th division: the FarCry division (FC).
11 May 2004 TAW PX store goes premium and can now have the TAW logo on any merchandize.
13 May 2004 The World of Warfare (WoWarfare.com) opens as the new TAW tourney website. (Site no longer active)
24 Jun 2004 Commander's Award and Outstanding Volunteer Medal are approved by TFO.
02 Jul 2004 TAW recruitment video goes live.
05 Jul 2004 Re-design of the FLASH introduction to the TAW website completed.
07 Jul 2004 40,000th post to the TAW forums reached.
09 Jul 2004 TAW website awarded the Grunt-Approved Award.
15 Aug 2004 TFO approves its 9th division: the Star Wars Battlefront Division (SW).
  The nine divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, LO, JO, FC, and SW.
  TFO approves a restructure change to the divisions (3rd restructure). Divisions will now have battalions instead of zones. Battalions can be filled with members from anywhere in the world.
  TFO introduces Corps Commanders to help divisional staff.
10 Oct 2004 TAW passed the 500 membership mark (508 total).
  TFO approves its 10th division: the Medal of Honor Division (MH).

03 Nov 2004 TAW NOT accepted as the largest gaming clan by the Guinness World Records.
11 Nov 2004 TFO approves its 11th division: Codename Panzers Division (CP).
  The eleven divisions in TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, AC, JO, FC, SQ, MH, and CP.
13 Dec 2004 TAW reaches 600 members.
Details Cterrian awards the DO of the Year 2004 award.
21 Dec 2004 TFO approves its 12th division: the Half-Live Division (HL).
  The twelve divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, AC, JO, FC, SW, MH, CP, and HL.

16 Jan 2005 Omega (Co-Founder of TAW) voted to remain as Secretary General of TAW for one more year.
  LowFlyer appointed to new TFO position of Webmaster.
19 Jan 2005 TAW reaches 700 members.
31 Jan 2005 Ghost Recon 2 XBox Pilot Project approved by TFO. GR2 is the first non-PC game to join TAW as a squad under the GR division.
05 Feb 2005 First TAW wide annual TeamSpeak meeting held.
01 Mar 2005 TFO approves its 13th division: the Brothers In Arms Division (BA).
  The thirteen divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, AC, JO, FC, SW, MH, CP, HL, and BA.
01 Apr 2005 TFO approves its 14th division: the SWAT Division (SWAT).
  The fourteen divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, AC, JO, FC, SW, MH, CP, HL, BA, and SWAT.
11 Apr 2005 TAW reaches the 800th membership mark.
30 Jun 2005 TAW Dedication Video released to honor all the men and women in the armed forces.
10 Jul 2005 TFO approves a new structure for 100+ member divisions which creates the position of Division Commander, Staff Officers, and Platoon Leaders.
  TFO promotes Omega to the rank of 5 Star General (the highest position in TAW [at the time]). Omega is the 1st and only 5 Star General.
28 Aug 2005 TFO approves its 15th division: the America's Army Division (AA).
  The fourteen divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, SM (renamed from AC), JO, FC, SW, CP, HL, BA, SWAT, and AA.
06 Sep 2005 The CP division is renamed to the Strategy Division (ST).
30 Oct 2005 TFO approves the TAW 5 Year Medal.
07 Nov 2005 TFO approved the 16th division: The Simulator and Strategy Division (S2) is created and merges the SM and ST divisions. Games that the S2 division supports are IL2, LOMAC Flight Sim, Silent Hunter III, Codename Panzers, and Ages of Empire 3.
  The eleven divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, JO, FC, SW, HL, AA and S2.
  BA and SWAT are deactivated in 2005.
10 Dec 2005 TFO approves a name change of the DO of the Year Award to DC of the Year Award.

04 Jan 2006 Gen. Fox (4 Star) retires from TAW due to personal reasons. No Ast. Secretary General named at the time of retirement.

29 Jan 2006 TFO approves the 17th division: World Of Warcraft
  The twelve divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, JO, FC, SW, HL, AA, S2 and WW
12 Feb 2006 TFO approves a 18th "special" division: Central Command Office (CCO). CCO will house the following positions: Secretary General, Assistant Secretary General, Webmaster, War College Personal, and Corps Commanders. In addition members of the CCO can not hold leadership positions in any other division.
  The thirteen divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, JO, FC, SW, HL, AA, S2, WW and CCO.
19 Feb 2006 Gen Omega (5 Star) voted to stay as Secretary General for 2006 calendar year. Vote was 7 for Gen Omega, 5 for BGN DSM, 2 for MGN Intense
04 Mar 2006 The Art Of Warfare is the highest bidder of the domain www.taw.net.
06 Mar 2006 The Art Of Warfare turns 5 years old
17 Mar 2006 2006 1st Quarter Operations Report released
30 Apr 2006 TFO approved the creation of the TAW Retirement Program, the TAW Lifetme Achievement Medal and the 19th division in TAW: The Retirement Division. This is the 2nd "special" division in TAW.
  The fourteen divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, JO, FC, SW, HL, AA, S2, WW, CCO and RET.
11 Jun 2006 TFO approved "Years of Service" medals to reconginze long-term membership within her ranks. 5 types of medals depending on lenght of service can be obtained.
15 Jun 2006 TFO approves the 20th division in TAW: The Information Technology Division. This is the 3rd "special" division which whose focus is not on gaming but maintaining of all IT related issues within the TAW organization.
  The fourteen divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, JO, FC, SW, HL, AA, S2, WW, CCO, RET and IT.
10 Sep 2006 The Art of Warfare Mission Statement is ratified by TFO.

  The 2006 TAW Tournament begins with 13 FEAR Teams (1st Modern TAW Wide Tournament)
17 Sep 2006 TFO Approves the Distinguished Service Cross as the 2nd highest medal in TAW.
04 Oct 2006 The World of Warcraft division is closed.
  The thirteen divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, JO, FC, SW, HL, AA, S2, CCO, RET and IT.
05 Nov 2006 TFO approves the 21th division in TAW: Deployed Military Division. This is the 4th "special" division which whose focus is not on gaming but maintaining contacting with those members of TAW who are currenlty deployed on military duty in real life.
  The fourteen divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, JO, FC, SW, HL, AA, S2, CCO, RET, IT and DM.

22 Nov 2006 The Seal Of TAW is released.

The Deployed Military Medal is approved by TFO.

01 Jan 2007 2007 Slogan: If you have nothing positive to say, then say nothing at all.
27 Jan 2007 2007 TAW Annual Meeting takes place. 158 members attend the meeting.
28 Jan 2007 TFO approves the 22th division in TAW: War College Division. This is the 5th "special" division. The mission of the War College is best summed as "the home of the DIS" (Documenting the past, Instructing the current membership, and Shaping the future of TAW)
  The sixteen divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, JO, FC, SW, HL, AA, S2, CCO, RET, IT, DM and WC.
31 Mar 2007 The Deployed Military and Retirement Divisions are merged into the Joint Service Division.
  The fifteen divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, JO, FC, SW, HL, AA, S2, CCO, IT, WC and JS.
Apr - May 2007 TFO approves the 23th division in TAW: Quake Wars.
  The seventeen divisions of TAW are DF, GR, BF, RS, CD, JO, FC, SW, HL, AA, S2, CCO, RET, IT, DM, WC and QK
25 Jun 2007 TAW is restructured into branches: Administration, Military , and Massive Multiplaying Onlines.
15 Jul 2007 TFO approves the ranks of Warrant Officers (WO1 - CW5)
18 Jul 2007 TFO reactives the Medal of Honor Division in addition the America's Army, Deltra Force, Joint Operations, Quake Wars and Star Wats are deactivated. In addition the Depoyed Military division is renamed to Joint Services.
13 Aug 2007 TFO approves the 23th division in TAW: Armed Assault
  The thirteen divisions of TAW are GR, BF, RS, CD, FC, HL, S2, CCO, RET, IT, JS, QK and AR.
22 Aug 2007 TFO approves the 24th division in TAW: Unreal Tournament
  The thirteen divisions of TAW are GR, BF, RS, CD, FC, HL, S2, CCO, RET, IT, JS, QK, AR, and UT
24 Aug 2007 Vanguard Unit is created to be used as a jump start for upcoming divisions and those divisions that are too small to maintain in Military Operations. AR is the first to transfer into Vanguard.
01 Oct 2007 The Vanguard Unit is created into the first Task Force and takes in QK, and several S2 units (Red Orchaster and World In Conflict)
18 Oct 2007 The first TAW member to be promoted to Warrant Office (WO1) is HudsonC from the Unreal Tournament Division. HudsonC also happens to be a female!
04 Nov 2007 TAW retires the callsign WhiteEagle due to the passing of the member on 27 Oct 2007.
Winter 2007 Air Combat is reactivated
  TFO approved the 25th Divisin in TAW: Crysis
  The thirteen divisions in TAW are GR, BF, RS, CD, AC, FC, HL, CCO, RET, IT, JS, UT, CR.
 

AC was reactivated in the winter of 2007 and as such takes it place back in the roster of oldest o newest divisions after CD.

11 Nov 2007 The 26th Division of TAW: Team Fortress is released from the Vanguard Task Force .
  The fourteen divisions in TAW are GR, BF, RS, CD, AC, FC, HL, CCO, RET, IT, JS, UT, CR, TF.

2008 Motto SAVE THE DRAMA FOR YOU MOMMA
13 Jan 2008 CIC Omega promotes General Fox to 5 Star General. Fox becomes only the second general in TAW history to carry the rank of 5 Stars General and at the time of his promotion is the only 5 Star General.
  Gen. Jedi becomes the 10th Medal of Honor holder.
27 Jan - 10 Feb 2008 The first Commander In Chief Voting Process began on 27 Jan 08 and ended on 10 Feb 08 with the election of CIC Fox as the 2nd CIC in TAW History.
  CIC Fox obtained 62% of the membership vote
  Gen. Tomamoko obtained 38% of the membership vote.
  BGN JrSunshine declined the nomiation for CIC Canidate.
03 Feb 2008 The 27th Division of TAW: World In Conflict is released from the Vanguard Task Force.
  The sixteen division in TAW are GR, BF, RS, CD, AC, FC, HL, CCO, RET, IT, JS, QW, UT, AC, CR, TF and WC.
  WC was the War College designation but was reassigned to World In Conflict as the War College was disbaned in June 2007.
06 Feb 2008 Special TFO Meeting occurs for the CIC Canidate Question & Answer session.
15 Feb 2008 The28th Divisions of TAW: Quake Wars are relesed from the Vanguard Task Force.
  The seventeen division in TAW are GR, BF, RS, CD, AC, FC, HL, CCO, RET, IT, JS, QW, UT, AC, CR, TF and WC..
  QW was a division before called QK and as such takes it place after the Joint Service division from oldest to youngest.
16 Mar 2008 2008 TAW Annual Meeting takes place. 177 members attend the meeting with a MAX of 147 at any one time. TeamSpeak screenshot.
18 Jul 2008 The 29th Division of TAW: Age of Connan is released from the Vanguard Task Force.
  The fourteen divisions in TAW are GR, BF, RS, CD, AC, FC, WW (reopned), CCO, QW, UT, CR, TF, WC, OS, and Age of Connan (AO).
 

OS is not a division but Operations Support (admin) which consolidated the RET, IT, and JS groups in Feb 2008. The term division only applies to FPS and MMOs.

10 Aug 08 The 30th Division of TAW: Warhammer Online is started under Realm.

08 Feb 09 2009 TAW Annual Meeting takes place. 270 members attend the meeting
  The 31st Division of TAW: Left 4 Dead is started after leaving the Vanguard Unit.

07 Aug 2009 QW Division becomes the largest division in the history of TAW with 174 members. The previous record holder was FarCry with 172 members in April 2005.
  The ten divisions in TAW are GR, CD, FC, WW, CCO, QW, UT, TF, OS, AO, WH, and LD. In addition 2 Task Force are in operation as Vanguard (ArmA2, America's Army 3, and Battlefield Heroes), and Sentinel (Battlefield and Crysis).
27 Oct 2009 The 32nd Division of TAW: Section 8 is started after leaving the Vanguard Unit.
  The 10 divisions in TAW are GR, CD, FC, WW, CCO, QW, UT, TF, OS, AO, LD, and S8. In addition 2 task forces are in operation as Vanguard (ArmA 2, America's Army 3 and AION) and Sentinel (Battlefield, Wolfenstien, Combat Arms, Call of Duty 2 ).
20 Dec 2009 The 33rd Division of TAW: AION is started after leaving the Vanguard Unit.
  The 11 divisions in TAW are GR, CD, FC, WW, CCO, QW, UT, TF, OS, AO, LD, S8, and AN. In addition 2 task forces are in operation as Vanguard (America's Army 3) and Sentinel (Battlefield, Wolfenstien, Combat Arms, Call of Duty 2 and ArmA 2).

24 Jan 2010 The America's Army Division (AA) is reactiviated. It first became a division on 28 AUG 05 as the 15th division in TAW at the time.
  The 12 divisions in TAW are GR, CD, FC, WW, CCO, QW, UT, TF, OS, AO, LD, S8, AN and AA. In addition 2 task forces are in operation as Vanguard (Battle Field Bad Company) and Sentinel (Battlefield 2, Wolfenstien, Combat Arms, Call of Duty 2, ArmA 2 and Age of Conan).
10 Jan - 07 Feb 2010 The second Commander In Chief Voting Process began on 10 Jan 10 and ended on 07 Feb 10 with the election of CIC Hook as the 3rd CIC in TAW History.
11 Apr 2010 2010 All Hands Meeting is held. 340 members attend making it the highest every attended.
