This month in Vanguard Blog we will finish the overview of a games journey through Vanguard, when it becomes a Spin-Up team (Tier 1 & 2).
When a unit reaches tier 2, it is beginning to develop self-sufficiency. The unit is progressing well on most aspects of administration, with satisfactory attendance and leadership. Once a game reaches tier 2, internal transfers can also take place. Conditions for Tier 2 are as follow:
1. Must have at least an XO, SO, FS and 3 DI’s per Battalion
2. Must have some subscriptions for the intent of own server (if required)
3. Have at least 20 members (not including staff)
4. Must have 2 events in place
5. Badge conditions must be a work-in-progress
6. Wikis will be a work-in-progress
7. Forums will be a work-in-progress
Once the Vanguard staff believe a unit is ready for launch, it enters tier 1. The unit at this point is awaiting approval from AC and CIC to launch. It is the final stepping stone before the unit gets Division (TAW Unit) status. At this point the game will receive its' own unit on the front page of VG and TAW site, get a graphic for the unit, and will virtually have full control with only minor intervention from VG staff. Conditions for Tier 1 are as follow:
1. Full complement of Staff (CO, XO, SO, TS, FS, 3 x DI) per Battalion
2. If a paid server is required, it must have the funds and at least one server running
3. At least 30 active members (not including the staff or the DC, DO)
4. Been at Tier 2 status for at least one month
5. A DC and DO must be selected and discussed with VG staff and the staff from the Corps it will be going into
6. At least 2 mandatory events for each Battalion or 1 mandatory and 1 adhoc per week
7. All badge requirements must be in place with a guide to badges and conditions
8. Forum will be up and running
9. Wikis will be up and running
10. Full game must be released to public and not in beta
11. All staff must be TAW Academy trained in their position prior to launch
That brings us to the end of the overview of Vanguard, join us next month when we will look at the roles of the Vanguard staff and what they do to support the new units.
Now on to the unit updates. This month, we have updates from four of the five units currently in Vanguard. A more detailed update on each unit can be found in this months edition of TAW newsletter. Also, World of Battleships and GTA V are expected to join Vanguard in the next few weeks, more information to come soon.
Finally, we are also pleased to announce that TAW is participating in the Alpha testing of “Call of Combat”. Information on the game and how you can be part of it, can be found in the “Call of Combat Test Channel” in the Vanguard channel tree. If you have any questions about call of Combat contact Eifer either in teamspeak, or by email. As part of this effort, Vanguard will be hosting a tournament in Call of Combat. The rules can be found here, and a signup form here.
Call of Combat
Call of Combat is a multiplayer real-time strategy game, where forming well thought-out battle plans and carrying them out cooperatively are the keys to success. Each player commands a squad of 4 soldiers through the typical battlefields of WW2. Players can play against each other in a 1 vs 1 battle, or team up with others to fight battles on an epic scale. In such larger battles, the highest ranking player of each side has the role of coordinating the team’s actions through a special leader interface which also serves as a tactical overview of the situation. It is through the team leader’s strategic guidance that players can achieve victory!
Call of Combat has the following key features:
Real-time strategy game; intense battles where tactical cunning and teamwork are just two of several key skills a player must master in order to be victorious.
Multiplayer game; team up with other players and form effective chains of command where the leader coordinates the team’s overall strategy.
Squad-based tactics: assemble a squad of up to 4 soldiers, take command of them in thrilling close quarter combat, and bring them home alive.
Fight in typical World War 2 terrain; enter buildings for cover, set up effective ambushes and use the terrain against your opponents.
Clan-based competition: join an active, loyal and competitive community that has been around since the start of Call of Combat over 12 years ago.
Evolve
The TAW Evolve Division is doing well, standing strong at over 40 members. Our compeditive team is currently preparing to compete in the upcoming ESL tournament. The team is getting stronger every day, and we are hoping to form a second team to compete as well. Finally, Evolve just recently got it first major update. It introduced the Tier 4 Hunters and the fourth monster, the infamous Behemoth.
Insurgency
Another great month for the Insurgency division. We were finally able to get a server for our EU battalion which hopefully means we can bring in more European members. Our NA battalion is not only growing, but thriving! As for the game itself, NWI released two new maps, “Station” and “Tell”, along with various bug fixes and improvements. Lastly, season 3 of the the DGL starts up soon. After our performance last season, we have been moved up to division 2! Watch out! We are headed to the top!
Battlefield: Hardline is on the Horizon
The BFH Horizon Team has made its way into Vanguard last week. Battlefield: Hardline is a heavily team-based First Person Shooter, Cops and Robbers translated to the Battlefield Style. We are still looking to fill DI and SO positions for NA and OC regions, so if you are interested in helping out to get our good name out in this new game please contact Metzger@taw.net.
Star Citizen
In the past few weeks we've had some new recruits join our family, and they are great additions to the team! We appreciate the positivity that they bring to TAW and our small-but-growing spinup project. We have one internal transfer spot available for an EU Drill Instructor! No prior experience required - we'll get you trained up. We are looking for an organized, active, friendly person that likes talking to people and mentoring new members. If you are interested, contact Zoloft@taw.net. We are looking forward to the FPS module that is tentatively set for April 15 and the social module that is planned for May/June 2015. TAW is also starting a brief Inaugural Racing tournament in the next week or so, with a more extended FPS tournament after the big update in late April.
