    TAW Takes to The Skies

World of Warplanes is a FTP  flight combat MMO action game set in the Golden Age of military aviation. The game continues the armoured warfare theme marked in the highly-acclaimed World of Tanks and will throw players into a never-ending tussle for air dominance.

Based purely on aircraft setting, World of Warplanes will allow players to build full-scale careers of virtual pilots offering machines of several key eras, staring from 1930’s with biplanes and up to Korean War jet fighters that led the way to modern air forces.

Every plane will feature multiple variations of ammo types, engines, and other crucial modules, and their various combinations will allow picking the optimal configuration for the most effective behaviour in combat.

Whilst it is still a global closed beta you can download the game and request to join.  To ensure TAW is well prepared when the game does get released, we are putting together a small horizon team to get the staff and organisation ready of which a spin meeting will be set up shortly.

Anyhow interested or playing the game and wanted a wingman should contact MRHazz who has stepped up as the SUL.

    TAW Battles the Zombie Apocalypse

The War Z is a Post-apocalyptic Zombie Survival Game it is played in both first and third person. The main object in this game is to survive and later on in the game to PVP and kill other players.

    Meeting the Neighbours

With the members of TAW though, what we try to do is protect the new people that just got the game and don’t have anything yet.  We will also try to hunt bandits and thugs for these are the people that kill other people with nothing just because they can.

We do have some thugs in the clan but that’s for being shot at by new people and able to return fire.

The game is really fun no matter what you have heard about it and as of right now it’s cheap at $15.00. The game is still in beta but if you pay the $15 now you don’t have to pay whatever the big price will be when it is actually released.

The main 4 things we are focusing on right now is:

    1) Recruiting

    2) Getting GC donations to clan (currency you can buy) need this to get more member slots in the clan

    3) Protecting the new members that can’t protect themselves

    4) Getting our Stronghold going (it is a clan base on a private server that clan members can hang out in and look at clan vault)

Anyone interested in the game and wanting to know more should contact Kronos as SUL or drop into the WarZ channels in Vanguard under the Horizon division.

    A Head Chopping Good Time!

I am excited to announce TAW has begun a Chivalry: Medieval Warfare Horizon team! Chivalry is an incredible FPS (First Person Slasher) game that pits the Agatha Knights vs. The Mason Order in large open maps ranging from Team Objective (storm the castle), Capture the Flag, and Team Death Match.

A Vanguard Defends Himself Against an Attacking Man at Arms

Set in Medieval Times, you take on the role of one of 4 distinct classes: Archer, Man at Arms, Vanguard, or Knight. You defend your honor against hordes of enemies, utilizing your classes unique strengths against your opponents. Chivalry: Medieval Warfare (CMW) is an incredible fast paced game with a steep learning curve. Once you learn the ropes however, you will be wading through fallen enemies on the way to glory!

The Four Classes: Archer, Man at Arms, Vanguard, and Knight

As a Horizon Team, CMW is not accepting internal transfers yet, but we hope to soon. The CMW team meets on Sunday afternoons, so please come join us on our new New York server. If you are interested in the game and would like to be considered for transfer, please contact Wardy or Kingcheese.  See you on the field of battle!

Sorry, I said just a little off the top...

Beam Me Up: STO Back in Full Swing in Vanguard

The Borg cube is ahead of you, flanked by two Spheres.  Behind it is a gateway from the Gamma Quadrant, almost ready to deliver a fleet of Borg ships. The Alpha Quadrants only hope is you and four other Starship Captains, both Klingon and Federation, banding together to fight an implacable common foe.

In the tail of a comet, a stricken freighter hides from its attackers. Their only hope is that you can find them in time, help them make repairs while fighting off their attackers.

On the surface of a Demon class planet, Tholians have established a beach-head. If they are not stopped here they will soon be able to launch assaults on neighbouring worlds.

On DS9 a peace conference is interrupted suddenly by a massive Dominion fleet pouring through the wormhole. Somehow you must get the delegates to safety, despite the teams of Jem H'dar soldiers who have beamed onto the station.

A research scientist on a backwater world has been studying one of the last colonies of Tribbles left in the galaxy. A Klingon force has landed and is intent on sterilising the entire planet. You and your team must fight your way through them in order to save the scientist and his subject of study.

    Welcome to Star Trek Online.

Maybe you're attracted to the idea of flying a cloaked Defiant class escort. Or perhaps a huge Galaxy class cruiser, even a Luna class science vessel.

You can even turn to the Klingon side and, cloaked, await your enemies prepared to execute the perfect ambush or boldly charge into battle in an enormous Vo'Quv carrier spitting Birds of Prey from your flight deck.

We've tried before to start an STO division in TAW but, perhaps, the time wasn't right. It is now.

Recent season updates have massively improved endgame content and particular attention has been paid to Fleets, the games equivalent of Guilds. If you've played STO in the past but have put it aside now is the time to return.

Nowadays this completely free to play MMO does not limit FTP players in any way. All the content, everything, can be obtained without spending a cent.

We can now build and customise our own Fleet Starbase and even an Embassy on New Romulus. As we develop these shared assets we are able to obtain new ultra rare technology, including Fleet Starships, weapons and consoles.

Virtually all the PvE content in the game can be played in teams, developing tactics and strategy that will serve us well in PvP. Fleet versus Fleet combat is already possible and is slated to be massively improved in the new season 8 update, scheduled for May this year. Now is the time to prepare for this, for we will be going up against experienced and well equipped teams of ships.

It is time for us to make the TAW name known and respected throughout the galaxy.

Join me and others as we embark on a new five year voyage of exploration, discovery and adventure.

We will bring the best of what we've learned from FPS strategies to the MMO world. Where we have fireteams in other games, we will have flights and squadrons in Star Trek Online. Proven effective command structures will enable us to maximise our effectiveness in every way.

Put simply, we are here to chew gum and kick butt and we're right out of gum.

    Let's make it so.

Indie Game Corner: Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP

Adventure games are often proceeded by the word "action" these days.  Many developers feel as though unless a game can cater to the perceived 2-second attention span of games these days, we will lose interest in the game and simply stop playing, unmotivated to continue the journey.  While not a bad thing, and certainly true for some gamers, sometimes the fast paced nature of a game causes the atmosphere or the story to suffer.  Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is a game on the opposite end of the spectrum; a rich environment that you stroll through, solving puzzles slowly, carefully.

Originally a portable game for iOS and Android, Sword and Sworcery uses only the mouse to navigate about a world of natural, if pixelated, beauty.  The controls are simple and intuitive with movement and inspection of items handled by the left mouse button, and combat entered using the right.  Though the pace of the game is slow, you barely notice as you wander about a mountain range that oozes with atmosphere and detail.  The music and visuals accentuate the stunningly beautiful back-drops and fill the air with dread and foreboding as your quest unleashes vile forces.

The game feels, sounds, and looks excellent; you feel as though you are wandering a world that may very well exist.  The world comes to life with the simplest of actions and comments by the few characters in the game.  While the gameplay of Sword & Swocery may, understandably, not appeal to a great number of gamers, I feel the setting that has been crafted is unlike any other.

    In The Scope: DeadChef

The CO of LL's massive NA battalion, DeadChef has been one of the most successful CO's in the division's history. How has he been so successful? well he admits to putting a ton of hard work into TAW, making sure that those under him always feel they are in the best gaming community in the world. Media took some of the culinary genius of LL's time to see what he could cook up for In The Scope.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First off tell us a little about yourself.

I am 25 and married, I live in the New Jersey near the shore.  Currently I work as a Seafood Dept. Manager for a grocery store, but I am a Certified Culinarian.  Certified by the American Culinary Federation.  I graduated from culinary school back in 2007 from Pennsylvania Culinary Institute, from which I graduated *** Laude.

What made you become the CO of NA LL?

One of the main reasons I stepped up into the role of CO is that I saw an opportunity open up and I thought that I could make a difference.  Since I have been in other admin positions and did well in them I thought I would take a big swing at this one.

Out of all your medals which one are you most proud of?

Battlefield Medal of Resilience - This medal makes me proud that people see that I take my job seriously and that nothing, even a hurricane, will put me in a situation to let people down.

What polices do you think help make LL the largest div in TAW?

I think that one of the things that make us excel as a department is that we see a task and we don't stop working on it till it is done.  We tend to put a lot of time in the details and I think our members see that and respect that.  Most people don't see the things that we do behind the scene and we try to make it that way.  On average I would say for me personally I put about 30-40 hours into TAW, on a normal weekly basis.

How about you personally, what are some things others might be surprised to know about you?

Hmmm....well lets see.  For my wedding I cooked all the food and my wife made the cake.  By the way I don't recommend this for anyone else too much work!  When I was younger I was a drummer for about 6 years and was in a metal band for about 4 months named The Eloi Society.  Which gives another great thing is Metal is my favorite type of music and by metal I mean Death Metal, favorite band being ZAO.  I was a published poet when I was 14 in a poetry magazine.

What are some of your favorite real life hobbies outside of gaming?

Pretty obvious but I love to cook, but also I play Magic The Gathering.  Music is a big part of my life as well although I don't play drums anymore but I listen to music and expand my music collection probably everyday.  My collection has enough music to probably not repeat a song if I played my play list for a day and a half.

What other div/positions have you been in?

This was my only division I have been in but have been a Fireteam Leader, Field Specialist, and Executive Officer.

Any parting words for the rest of TAW?

Any division can be as large as we are and as established as we are.  There are two key things to keep in mind when expanding.  Nothing is ever to far to reach just a matter of hard you are willing to try to obtain it.  Also there are no problems, only solutions.

    Vanguard's First Update of 2013

Firstly Kingcheese and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that was involved in Vanguard over the last year. Many of you stepped up to be Spin Up leaders, Battalion staff and Battalion members. You all spent endless hours serving your Battalions whether it be hours of organizing the matches over TeamSpeak or burning the midnight oil planning and preparing your practices to administrate your teams and proving that servant leadership is the way to do our core business.

Now that 2012 is firmly on the back burner Vanguard has set their sights on even higher goals this year. We successfully launched 5 games into TAW last year and we aim to launch even more this year. With the newly implemented Horizon Division it will allow us to test more games with less administration thus allowing VG to bring more choice to the plate and every single game going through the same process as the last game that was launched. Some of these choices which we see on the horizon in no particular order are

    Alien Colonial Marines
    Arma III
    Chivalry Medieval Warfare
    Company of Heroes 2
    Crysis 3
    Dirtybomb
    Elder Scrolls Online
    Heroes and Generals
    Rainbow 6 Patriots
    Warface
    World of Battleships
    World of Planes

I'm sure you all have lots more games that you can think of and we always take into consideration every game. Should you feel that you know a game that allows our TAW game play and ethos then just fill in our game suggestion from this
    Link

Vanguard is an ever evolving unit which will see some changes in the first few months which allow us to operate effectively with more games than ever. As the Corps grows so does our ambition to do more and better. 2013 will be an excellent year for Vanguard which will keep Kingcheese and I on our toes with a fast pace and a flexible work process!

Happy New Year and May this year live up to last year’s great success

    Regards

    The Vanguard Staff

    Hawken

    - Incoming Transmission...

    - Authentication Received...

    - Hawken Division Recognised...

    - Setting Polarity...

    - Data Feed Stabilised:

The beginning is a very delicate time... Know

then, that TAW’s Hawken Division is forming
a strong and formidable force of expert pilots.

The NA Battalion has made a solid beginning and is

recruiting well. Despite being in open beta, our pilots are eager to improve their skills and are working well together to take on their foes.

The EU Battalion is also building steadily, pushing recruitment and constantly on the lookout for more members. Although the game doesn't yet have all the features we would like, we are making regular practices on Sundays and Tuesdays and enjoying the game with our teammates, these are the things we need most for a strong division.

The staff are opening an open screenshot contest this Sunday [20JAN2013]
for all members of TAW to enter. To enter simply head over to the Vanguard forum and look for the Hawken competition post. Winners will have their shots showcased and will be used for future division content.

Again, this is open to everyone in TAW! And the game is free to play, also, all

the members of the Hawken division are happy to help anybody looking to try out the game or take part in the competition. So please feel free to join us!

Coming up on Sunday 3rd February at 8pm GMT, TAW’s EU Battalion

will be engaging in it’s first skirmish against The Old World Lancers, a rival Hawken

clan. This will be the first competitive action the EU scene has had so stay tuned and don't forget to show your support for our pilots as they fly TAW's colours atop Illal’s

    desolate surface.

Until next time, see you in the dust pilots!

    - Transmission Ends...

    Mechwarrior Online

MechWarrior online went into open beta at end of October 2012, after 6 months in closed beta. The game is free to play and is based on the rich storyline from the MechWarrior universe.
The TAW division of MechWarrior online started in December 2012 and in just over a month has grown to 45 members. We have a good reputation in game and are sought after when grouping with other people in both teams and pugs. We have recently started developing training squads and I have recently completed the new basic badges for training to ensure all our new recruits are up to speed and continue to be sought after for our skill and teamwork.
The basic badges are restricted to TAW members logged in.
MechWarrior online does allow guild members to play together as a team in either 1-4 man drops with another 4 random players to bring the total drop to 8, or 8 man drops against other clans. We have been using the 4 man groups to recruit and dominate showing our skills as a team and training to improve co-ordination and team tactics, often playing 4 players down because the pugs are running around like headless chickens.
The 4 man game has gradually changed as people have been using sync drops to drop with 2 full 4 man teams against us, this is tougher and more challenging, but despite the difficulty we have overcome this by forging strong friendships with other guilds who in turn also sync drop with us.
While still training new people in 4 man tactics we have also started working on 8 man tactics, this requires a lot of thought and effort before the drop, having the right balance of mechs, tonnages, roles, loadouts etc. while also knowing how to deal with enemy mechs and their loadouts. At the moment this is a very competitive environment and limited to only a few big guilds doing 8 man drops. That said some guilds only have 8 or 16 players and only cater to 8 man drops, whereas we cater to demand across the board.
On the development front, the developers have started rolling out the red carpet and in December 2012 we saw the first of many big patches being introduced into the game, fixing bugs and adding new content. First they added a game changer like ECM and TAG into the game, then they modified weapon ranges, heat efficiencies, ammunition, armour loadouts, builds skeletons, modules etc. Over Christmas they introduced Christmas lights, hoola hoop dancers and new Camouflage paint. (I should point out that there is quite a variety of colours ranging from dour green and grey to bright pink and purple). In January 2013 we saw the roll out of another big patch, which introduced some awesome new content and some additional coding rewritten, next step is for them to re-write the ‘State Re-winding’ (for those not familiar with the term State Re-winding means that when you shoot at a Mech rather than check the shot against the Mechs current hit box location we rewind the Mechs state to the time in the past when the shot was fired and check the shot against the hit box position at that time), am sure you were equally bemused by that piece of information.
They also introduced a few new modules to boost target information such as Target Decay Rank 1 and 2 and Sensor rank 2, basically reducing the nerf on missile boats. Once you have gotten these modules it sort of feels like it’s a little better than it was before the patch, but not much tbh. For most of us though the introduction of the new Spider Mech was the real prize in the latest patch, that sees players being able to mount up to 12 jump jets on their chassis and use a combination of momentum and fibrillation to ensure you don’t snap your legs off when you land and keep running with the mech. WOW! So there I was travelling at 137 kph on my new Spider mech, no skills unlocked yet and I accidentally jumped in the wrong direction over the enemy team and introduced “skeet shooting” to the game…
TAW MWO continues to grow in popularity, we are still getting a lot of new people in and we have laid solid foundations as people continue to step up into support ranks before moving up to SO and XO ranks. I would still consider someone who is interested in taking on the role of a DI for the OC battalion, but all in all we are on the right track and set to deliver a division to be proud of. Well done to all for their hard work and thank you to all those who have supported us.
    See you ingame.

    TAWcraft news!

TAWcraft server is developing and growing. We are currently running the latest version so everyone can update to 1.4.7! Big thanks to our wonderful ST Slipcor for the wonderful work and Reddie and Feinth for testing everything. With the new server update we are starting to see new faces as well around. The Minecraft group is slowly growing, having new smal addition the the staff team, and regular player base. Some of you who have missed the latest server activity’s can be informed, that we are in the process of transferring few epic projects here and there. Some big amounts of money are flowing around! Since teleoperation of giant hourglass or desert city’s require a lot of magical powers, so it comes with price.
Our community is actively building and creating. Currently we are having a building competition, and all the participants can use creative mode. So everyone who wants to join can do it, without worrying about where to get all the valuable materials. Each team is tasked to build a centerpiece for the future Polar city. You can read more on details in our forum section under the topic -
     Polar City.
In the meantime, while some people are working on technical aspects of the server, the staff team tries to bring new games into to the server. Developing and introducing new content, and now with some fresh ideas, we are working on some new. For anyone who is interested, we have brought
dynamic map back up. All TAW members are welcomed to look, to see how our TAWcraft server looks from SPACE!

    Natural Selection 2

Natural Selection 2 is a first person shooter/real time strategy hybrid,. The two teams are a completely different way to play. Marines largely rely on guns and other pieces of tech to annihilate the alien presence. Aliens however, rely primarily on melee attacks. Certain
alien life forms can walk on walls, teleport, and even fly. Players have a currency system which they use to buy better equipment or evolve into higher life forms. We love to have visitors so if you have the game why not come float on down with us.
It’s been very busy here at Natural Selection 2 since we joined Vanguard,.Over the last three to four months we've secured our public server and numerous private match servers as well as establishing two competitive ENSL League teams, headed by Enerccio And Grinser with
Howl taking over from Grinser mid season. Both teams have done really well and have enjoyed their first season of competitive gaming. As is normal in Vanguard, its taken time to choose leadership and assign positions but we have finally got there and we'd like as a whole to thank Ekis for all his hard work... a lot of us knew Ekis from Nuclear Dawn and it was pleasure to have him with us again.
Now as we head into becoming a division, recruitment is high and so are spirits.
Always up for some alien v marine fun our membership is growing. Our FS Phenom is working with the battalion and staff to finalise the internal tournament we plan will start mid February and our SA Dominator is organising what is, we hope the first of many gatherings... This year hosted in Berlin with many members gathering
For a BBQ over a weekend in July so if you’re in the area why not post on the NS2 forum and pop along and make a few more TAW friends.

    Planetside 2

"Being a part of Planetside has never been better. We have made huge advancement since our spin-up days in Horizon. We just recently came back with a successful battle with the major Outfits on our server during the FNO(Friday Night Ops) hosted by SOE. Also to mention is our Oceanic Battalion is raking in huge numbers and is growing to be the largest OC battalion I have ever seen thanks in part of the wonderful staff that’s in placed, and to not forget with the other battalions.
The NA Battalion came back with its recent battle in the FNO event and everyone had a lots of Fun. I would also like to mention that our Training Office is working on our Division specific badges which will prove to be a lot of fun once we have them implemented.
Both the EU battalions are both hard at work on creating fun and exciting events. Fifth Battalion right now is creating fun events for its members and if you play VS in TAW and are not a part of PS, come and join them. Fourth Battalion is always having a blast and I encourage everyone to come and join them.
Planetside is the game TAWs been waiting for. It allows TAW to really flex itself and to show the community that TAW is the number one place to be to fully enjoy the game to the fullest. If you are interested in playing with us, our battalion times are:

    Smite

    Smite TAW Community group

Greetings to those reading this article. I am Nukeybrown FS for the TAW Smite division. Within this brief article I am going to explain the basics of what Smite is and how the division is progressing as a community and competitive play. Smite has recently entered open beta, you can register and download the game from www.smitegame.com.

What is Smite? Smite is a third person
MOBA (Multilayer Online Battle Arena) developed and published by Hi-Rez Studiosfor Microsoft Windows. As the player you can choose any of the 28 gods within the game. After doing so you're thrown into a match where you use your abilities to fight and co-ordinate as a team to win.

What is the population like? Population wise smite is very strong and constantly growing by the minute. Both North American and European servers alike have a strong player base, the game offers a preference to the two allowing you to be matched to other players corresponding to your location making for a very stable game when playing.

Smite has one of the highest conversion rates with around 50% of players who try the game become active and also one of the highest retention rates of 70% of players who are active coming back the next month to play again. The statistics are extremely high and are considered to be world class for a F2P model game.

Why is Smite different to other MOBA games? The most noticeable difference would be the third person perspective which is a huge change from the birds eye view of LoL, DOTA 2 and HoN. This means that much more map awareness is required to stop you from being ganked and makes for much more fast paced combat. Another noticeable change would be pace at which matches progress as combat is much more present in the lane/early game phase. The art style within the game is visually pleasing due to the amount of detail across the maps. Graphic fidelity is also higher with lots of particle effects going off within combat making for a higher minimum requirements than other MOBAs.

    Below are the requirements:
OS: Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista or Windows 7

    · Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or Althon X2 2.7 GHz

    · RAM: 2GB (XP), 3GB (Vista, Win7)

    · Graphic card: ATI or Nvidia graphics card with 512MB video ram or better and Shader Model 3.0+ support. (ATI Radeon 3870 or higher, Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT or higher).

    · Sound card: DirectX compatible sound card

    · Hard drive: 10 GB free

In regards to the community we currently have within the Smite division we have a nice mixture of NA, EU and OC players who are all fairly active. We are currently seeking anyone who is looking to give Smite a go and join the friendly fun community we have going on. We are also still looking for more competitive players to participate in the tournaments that occur every Saturday. We have little presence within this area but are known by the streamers and HiRez to be a “big multiple gaming community full of really nice guys and would recommend them if you are looking to play as a group” - HiRez Bart.

A Brief History of Ghost Recon Future Soldier

    Game Summary

Ghost Recon Future Soldier takes place in the near future. A dirty bomb has taken out a Ghost team and another Ghost team (consisting of Kozak, Ghost Lead, Pepper and 30k) is tasked with tracking down the source of the dirty bomb. During the campaign, the Ghosts will visit places such as Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia and Norway.

    Game Play

The game is a third-person cover-based shooter, except when aiming using sights at which point the game switches to a first-person camera in order to facilitate more precise aiming. Cover can be partially destroyed, forcing the players to constantly seek other hiding spots (as indicated by a blue triangle).

While in cover, players can be suppressed. When under fire by an enemy machine gun, the field of vision will decrease, making it harder to return fire.

A new feature in the series is the “optical camouflage”, a form of active camouflage which allows the Ghosts to become harder to see. According to the game designer Rafael Morado, the optical camo technology is still a prototype and there are disadvantages. The camo will only stay active as long as the player maintains a low profile. When the player moves too quickly or fires their weapon, the camo will deactivate. It should also be noted that the optical camo will not function as an invisibility cloak. Enemies will be able to see the Ghosts when they are close enough.

Players will also be able to control drones. One of the drones already confirmed is a small remote controlled quad rotor which can be used for scouting purposes.  Some drones are equipped with grenades that inflict substantial damage to the enemy.  Friendly drones (UAV’s) are identified with blue icons and enemy drones are identified with red.  When an enemy drone is launched is main purpose to establish locations of friendly players, when that happens the screen indicated that the player has been “Detected”.

During E3 2011 Ubisoft debuted Gunsmith, which allows the player to customize and try out their weapons. Parts that can be customized include optics, attachments, trigger group and barrel. Gunsmith will be available for both single player and multiplayer. In the campaign, players will unlock complete weapons (that include all parts) by completing missions and challenges. In multiplayer, players will unlock weapons and earn credits as they level their character. The credits can then be spent on weapon parts.

    TAW Inception

Ghost Recon Future Soldier (GRFS) was brought to TAW in June 2012 by ChicagoONE.  Since its development as a team, GRFS was lead by Johnson.  During its stay in the Vanguard Division, GRFS grew membership by constant recruitment in public games.  It currently has over 50 members.  Some are veterans of TAW like Johnson the Division Commander and Discipline the Division Officer, some are new members that were recruited and now hold senior staff positions like Balan the North American Battalion Commanding Officer and Chewy the European Battalion Commanding Officer.

As anyone knows, recruiting maybe difficult sometimes but the GRFS Team is constantly doing their part in all aspects.  Balan alone has brought in more than 15 members.  The current members are active in attending practices and the CO’s are constantly reviewing attendance to ensure members are upholding to TAW Policy.  Sure they have had to let a few members go because of attendance and other reasons but the team becomes stronger every day.

    In The Scope: Balan

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier has had its ups and downs on its road to becoming a full fledged division. One of the big "ups" was the addition of North American CO Balan to the TAW ranks. Balan has been charged with the leadership of the NA crew and has done very well, wracking up an astonishing nine medals in just six months. USNnuke of Media took a few minutes to ask Balan some questions, and this is what the CO had to say.
First off, Tell us about yourself.
I am 48 years old and have been gaming for over 30 years. I love animals and  people even though I don't get out much. I have built houses and businesses in 5 states and served 7 years in the US Army before I got hurt and had to leave.
I am currently really enjoying my time in TAW it has been and hopefully will continue to be a very special place for me.

What made you decide to join TAW?
I can't remember who recruited me off hand but I think it was Johnson. I was new to shooters as I never had much interest in them before GRFS. Once I visited the TAW website I was hooked. I have a military background and the TAW structure appealed to me very much.

What  do you think Ghost Recon Future Soldier brings to TAW that other games are missing?
All I can say is that GRFS is absolutely the best shooter I have ever played. I don't like FPS games because they are unrealistic you cannot take cover or hide behind objects. GRFS changed all that with it's cover system and being able to mark targets and the active cammo. The campaign is the most fun I have had in a long time. The multi-player would be the best in the industry if it wasn't for all the current issues.

What made you take the position of CO after such a short time in TAW?
When Discipline got promoted to the DO position it just seemed like a logical thing to do. I love the game and I love TAW. I really want to see our Division grow and become one of the best in TAW. I only hope I am able to do as good of a job as CO of my Battalion as Discipline has done before me.

How about you personally, what are some things others might be surprised to know about you?
That I actually get tired of gaming sometimes lol. I am on all the time and rarely take breaks so my guess is that people would be surprised that I need a break from it every once and while.

What are some of your favorite real life hobbies outside of gaming?
Other Hobbies. Hmm lets see, I like to build computers, I like to fly Radio controlled airplanes (my favorite being a P51 Mustang with a 51" wingspan with a OS Max FX 46 in the nose for power)

Any parting words for the rest of TAW?
Parting words. Just that I love this organization and I hope everyone keeps recruiting. It has been a real pleasure to be part of this community.

Indie Game Corner: Legend of Fae

Lately I've written several times about various puzzle games, so my love for them must be plain.  Often they give a sense of accomplishment that most games fall far short of, and additionally they flex the mind, honing mental skills such as careful planning and pattern recognition.  A puzzle game can even be made all the better when dabs of other game genres are mixed in, such as RPG, action, or the like.  One of the most popular puzzle games is Bejeweled from Pop Cap games, which has spawned countless imitators, spin-offs, and several sequels.  The mechanic of moving gems to match three of a kind is easy to grasp and as such, anyone can successfully play the game.  But I'm not talking about that game today; instead, I'll be talking about a spin-off game called Legend of Fae, a game heavily inspired by Bejeweled.
Legend of Fae is a real time RPG in which you help the young Claudia Bernard travel around the small island of her home, searching for her Uncle Monte who mysteriously disappeared one morning.  Left with only a mystical ancient lantern as her only clue, Claudia sets out and soon discovers the artifact's magical properties.  The lantern not only allows her to cast magical spells, but also see the Fae creatures who have begun invading her home and the four elemental companions who accompany her on her journey.  The story's unique lore keeps the player in the dark as to what is actually happening to the island, enticing you to keep playing the game to find out more about these mysterious circumstances.

Along the way, Claudia must combat numerous enemies in a very unique combat system; just like Bejeweled, you move gems around to match 3-of-a-kind.  Each gem has a unique purpose, four of which provide different kinda of mana (fire, earth, wind, water), another lets Claudia progress through the level or dodge attacks, and the final helps cure Claudia of ailments such as poison, blindness, or other nasty things.  If you match gems with each successive move, your combo meter goes up, increasing the effects from each set of matched gems.  Once you've collected enough mana of a given type, one of your elemental friends appears, granting you the ability to cast a spell of that element.  Spells will harm the enemies blocking your path, allowing to progress through each level.
Additionally, there's a high level of strategy in this game.  Every element is unique, and each has various abilities and different types of enemies which they are strong against.  Using the right elements against the right enemies helps you defeat your enemies quickly.  You can also buff Claudia before a combat by expending mana while out of combat.  Finally, the ability to upgrade the lantern to hold more mana, have special abilities, and even gain different levels of spells allows for a great deal of stigmatization to the player's strategy.
The Legend of Fae, by Endlessfluff games, is an amazingly unique game which combines tried-and-true elements of a puzzle game with the amazingly deep elements of an RPG.  On Steam for only $9.99 USD, the game is often featured in many of Steam's sales throughout the year, and can be picked up for less.  I strongly recommend the game to people who enjoy to think carefully about their moves in a game or even people just want to experience an interesting RPG.
