A lot has been going on in one of the largest division in TAW, the League of Legends. The largest news is the new format in which we are conducting our North American East battalion (Battalion 1) during practice times, which is a first attempt and never has been done this way in the past. Here is a sneak-peek:
Taw LL1 Practices
The new goal is freedom of choice for the players. We have gone from a system of officers picking teams and attempting to balance games between skill levels etc, to an open format. Now, players have two options. First, they can choose to play a casual in-house game with other guild members where the goal is to play something new or just have fun. Second, they have the option to create their own 5 player teams within the league of legends ranked queue ladder. These teams can choose to scrimmage against each other during our practice times or they can simply get together and play ranked as a team.
This new system has a couple of reasons why we think it will be an improvement. With the way things were set previously, we had attendance issues for practices where we would create teams for them, as nobody really cared about the rest of their team or if they won or lost. Then because of that, teams would have to change frequently to make up for members who would not show up. Now, players are responsible for making their own teams and if a player doesn't show up, they have to go back to play casual with everyone else, so there is kind of a peer pressure element. Also, since it is an actual ranked team in league of legends, there is something to be gained and lost. Along the same lines, since teams changed so much previously, it was unlikely that players ever played with any other player or group on a regular basis. With the ranked teams, they will have time to play as a team and learn each other's play styles, learn to play as a group and take objectives/team fight/etc.
We understand that there may be players that want to find a team and haven't been able to. To that end, we created a Google document where players can let others know they are available to be picked and what roles within the game they would prefer to play, along with their current ranked information. For those that have already joined teams, they are listed as well.

After 2 weeks of letting teams build and get ready, we plan to start a bracket system. The ranked teams will be given a schedule of when they play each other, and each of their games will be hosted and also shout casted by a commentator. The other users will be able to watch the games and follow along with their favorite team's progression (something similar to an LCS like format). Hopefully this will get even more players interested in joining teams and even get more recruits to join LL division in TAW.
In the end, the goal is to have fun and also be able to learn and improve upon our game play. We think this will be a great way to do that, and are looking forward to playing it out!
Cya on the field of justice!
