The Art of Warfare Blogs: TAW Blogs

Memorial Day for the dead soldiers of the world - may they rest in peace

Seeing as TAW gives a lot of respect to our brothers in all the Armies around the world, I saw it fitting to write this blog post.

Soldiers from all countries around the world risk their lives on a daily basis so that the citizens of their country could live peacefully.

May the 5th, we mourn our losses. Today, every citizen, male female and child will stop whatever they are doing, drop their heads down and for 1 minute stand completely still and in complete silence while an ear piercing and heart penetrating siren sounds through out the country - an audible representation of the screaming of thousands of tormented souls of families who lost their dear ones, the weeping of children who will grow without a parent, the very essence of our social connection to others lost to metal and fire. In this day of mourning, I remember all the soldiers who died in defense of freedom, all the soldiers who put their lives before their comfort, all the people who risk their lives so that we won't have to.

I was not a front line soldier but I have lost friends in the army, for those of you have lost friends to war, I feel you pain and I extend my sympathy, for those of you who haven't, I wish you never will, but I do have a request from you all - one minute, nothing more, one minute of you busy lives to think of our fallen brothers all around the world - those who died so we could live.

    Sincerely,

    Davsank [WP DC]

It  is not often that such a short piece of written work will bring me to tears, this is one of those few cases.  My heart goes out to you, as well as everyone who have lost friends and loved ones during their enlistment.  Without soldiers willing to fight for freedom, we would not have as wonderful of a world as we live in today.  Thank you all for your service.  I hope everyone else joins Davsank with one minute of silence and stillness to recognize, mourn, and honor those who were lost along the way.  Beautiful article my friend.

I actually spent some time with the IDF on a Foreign Military Relations assignment, I spent majority of my time in Michve Alon just outside Safed. Beautiful culture, dedicated service people. As a lover of history, I really enjoyed my time there. Lecha dumiya tehila.

I bow my head for all those soldiers that fall, tasked with defending freedom and any one who served in other ways like the police and died to protect that freedom

On any day of remembrance we should personally reflect. TAW was founded by those who respect the sacrifces made by all manner of service members regardless of the country.

We remember the fallen on the 4th of may, my father and I stood there, 2 minutes of silence saluting to the graves of fallen soldiers, both in military outfit with the flag raised. On the 5th of may, we go to the graves of the fallen jewish people and we stand there, again with our military outfits, people who came there were the children of the fallen and they thanked us for fighting for freedom. I've never been thanked for doing such a thing and I would like to thank the soldiers fighting so we can live in peace.

In Canada we have Rememberance Day on November 11, and a national moment of silence at 11AM on that day. I reflect more often than that though about those who I know that have served, and for one I knew, who was KIA. I would like to give remembrance to someone I went to school with, Captain Richard Leary, 2nd Battallion, P.P.C.L.I. In June 2006, his group was ambushed by sniper fire in Afghanistan. he was evacuated within the hour but CPR during flight back was unsuccessful. he left behind a wife who he also served along side with.

I come late to this Blog and hope this missive finds you all well. Twas Very Emotional and Uplifting to read and Reflect. Yes my eyes got misty dwelling on Wars Past,Present and Future. Every War Memorial i come to i go on bended knee and Pray then stand and render a hand Salute. Of things martial i cleave to as we all who served felt never more alive than then. There are many names on the Viet Nam War Memorial Wall of Soldiers i knew who never came home. That was my War but Many before and after. Freedom is Not Free, It is Bought with Sacrifice, Blood and Willingness to give Full Measure if need be. World Wide there is always those who answer the Call and for that i am Thankfull.
