    Phishing via taw.net email accounts

    Good Day all,

Just to let everyone know as we've had a lot of people contact us, there are email phishing attacks going around the world right now.

    We are not immune.

    IMPORTANT

If you receive an email, with an attachment you are not expecting Please do NOT open it. We have some nasty things going around right now.

Even if its from the taw.net domain, if you are not expecting a file to be attached to an email.. just delete / remove it.

As always, insure your virus protection is on and updated.

Just because it says it is from something@taw.net doesn't mean it actually is.  en.wikipedia.org/.../Email_spoofing

yeah got quite a few mails from paypal like that, I always go to paypal.com and log in directly, just to be on the safe side. But never use links or open attachements in emails!

been getting a few from Calico@taw.net witch is my taw email, really weird,

Also GFX sends the Graphics requests we make for you to your taw@net email and it will not come from a taw@net domain, there will only be 2 type of files either PNG or JPEG witch if you use outlook shows a preview of the image before downloading it. hope that helps for members using GFX services.

If the admin wants to contact me regarding this I would be glad to discuss, I work for FireEye as a cyber threat analyst, we would deal with these phishing and ransomware issues on a daily basis. they would be two separate things really but both are pretty prevalent at the moment.  Cheers - Khye

"Why don't you an email them saying don't click on any links or any files that are sent to you because of virus & blah blah blah ......"

You don't have to click on anything for ransomware to detonate, just having something encrypted go into your browser cache is enough, once it is combined with something as innocent as a jpg image later then the two combine, a decryption key is hidden in the jpg and you are done!   Things have moved on from signature based viruses a long time ago. Think about all the antivirus software that's out there, it only detects viruses if it has a signature for it (MD5 Sum) already in the database. most security breaches are achieved with a combination of malicious files that have not been seen before (no signature, no MD5, no detection).

I have never received any email from TAW that is not intended to b send to me ! So thats nice. For others who have gotten them. get rid of em asap and do not just remove them make shure that the recycle bin/folder is empty to . I know what it is to lose complete control over you computer by those things. well not only the computer but true it they managed to hack my complete home network so computer, smartphones and even tablets and the kidtablet were all infected and were dooing things without our approval by its own and it is really not funny to get rid of those kind of things !!
