City of Heroes, developed by Cryptic Studios and Published by NCSOFT, is an MMORPG, launched back in April of 2004. While originally shut down back in November of 2012, allocation of source code material allowed players to run and host servers, outside the jurisdiction, but "blessing" of NCSoft.
The game allows players to create their very own superheroes or villains, and take on criminals, villains, heroes or other adversaries. Players can gain experience by defeating said enemies, or by completing missions. As they gain experience, they level up, increasing their ability to dish out and incur damage, and gain additional powers that they can use in various new ways. As the game is an MMORPG, there is no definitive end goal, but players are able to progress many narrative story arcs to do around the game, and players are also able to team up with different players and have a team that complement each other abilities. The game is mainly focused around the PvE side of things, though offers zones, where players can enter and fight against other players, with useful temporary powers available to entice players to enter said zones.
The game featured five hero archetypes, those being Blasters, Controllers, Defenders, Scrappers and Tankers, with each choice affecting power choices and providing their unique take on combat. The game also featured Villain archetypes, with those being Brutes, Corruptors, Dominators, Masterminds and Stalkers.

With the game being shutdown, and players running it on their own, playing it is a bit different than usual, and for that, there is ways to go about.
Here is how you can start downloading and installing the game, and creating your very own superhero....or villain:
AND YOU ARE SET. You can now login in the client you launch and start playing!
