Dota 2, developed and published by Valve, is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA). Considered a sequel to the Warcraft 3 mod, Defense of the Ancients, the game is both a commercial and spiritual success, with a player base among the top 3 in steam, thanks to its free-to-play model, and an esports scene like none other.
The game pits players in teams of 5 against one another, whose objective is to destroy a large structure defended by the other team, known as the Ancient, while defending theirs in the same time. Players can choose from a pool of 120 heroes, each boasting their own design, strengths, and weaknesses. Those heroes are split into two roles, core and support.
Core heroes are generally weak at the start of the match, but grow stronger as they gain experience, thus carrying their team to victory. Support heroes are generally weak damage dealers, but provide their teammates with abilities such as healing and other buffs. Heroes are picked during a pre-game draft, and locked once selected for the rest of the match.
Players use a magic system, to activate their abilities and skills, and regenerate the points they use from this system slowly over time. Skills will also enter a cool-down once used, creating scenarios where players must wisely choose when to use their precious abilities, which could mean the difference between winning or losing a fight.
We understand the hurdles and difficulties that arise with recruiting and maintaining a division for a game such as this, and as such, we hope to talk with members who think they can rise to the challenge against it all. Let's keep DOTA alive guys, the division is closing in to 10 years in TAW!
After various years of being in DOTA as part of battalion command and division command in the past I cawn tell you that the biggest hurdle really is consistency in recruiting. The game is versatile enough to keep events and practice fun over a long timespan and with the built-in workshop maps even gives the possiblity of a Warcraft 3-like experience with minigames and the likes :)
Go for it and take the challenge guys!
