I am in the process of building a new computer for the case mod contest at QuakeCon 2015. This will be my third time at entering the contest and probably my last for a while. Each build takes months of research, planning and building from start to finish. I started this build in September and hope to have it done by July 1st. The contest is on July 23rd.

Main Components:

  • Case: CaseLabs Magnum STH10
  • CPU: Intel i7 5930K Haswell-E
  • Motherboard: ASUS Rampage V Extreme
  • Memory: 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 2666Mhz (8x4GB)
  • Memory Kit: Corsair Dominator Platinum Light Bar Upgrade Kit (x4)
  • GPU: 2 x EVGA GeForce GTX 980 in SLI
  • SSD1: 256GB Samsung XP941 M.2
  • SSD2: 480GB Corsair Neutron XT SATA 3
  • SSD3: 480GB Corsair Neutron XT SATA 3
  • HDD1: 2TB Seagate Barracuda
  • HDD2: 2TB Seagate Barracude
  • PSU: Corsair AX1200i Modular

Watercooling Components:

  • CPU / Motherboard Block: EK-FB ASUS R5E Monoblock - Acetal + Nickel
  • GPU Block: 2 x EK-FC980 GTX - Acetal + Nickel
  • GPU Backplate: 2 x EK-FC980 GTX Backplate - Nickel
  • Pump: 2 x EK-D5 Vario
  • Radiator (120mm): 2 x EK-CoolStream PE 480 (Quad)
  • Radiator (140mm): Black Ice SR1 560
  • Reservoirs: 2 x Bitspower Dual / Single D5 Top Upgrade Kit 250
  • Fittings (Upper/Lower): Bitspower Shiny Silver
  • Tubing (Upper/Lower): EK-Tube ZMT
  • Fittings (Middle): Primochill Revolver / Bitspower Shiny Silver
  • Tubing (Middle): Copper 1/2" OD

Miscellaneous Components:

  • RGB Controller: Darkside RGB Controller with remote
  • Fan Controller: ASUS Front Base
  • 120mm Fans: 13 x Cougar 120mm Blue LED
  • 140mm Fans: 7 x Cougar 140mm Blue LED
  • Sleeving: Darkside HD - Dark Blue UV and Jet Black
  • Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 RGB Mechanical w/Cherry MX Red
  • Mouse: Corsair Gaming Sabre Laser RGB

My first build (QuakeCon 800D) used vinyl tubing and my second build (Toxic Envi) utilized acrylic tubing. This build will use the next step ... copper tubing.

Here is a shot of the first copper section that was just completed.

I will post a shot of this build when it is completed.

All copper tubing sections have been cut and bent for the GPU and CPU loops.

The sections will be taken to a chrome plating shop on Monday.

If you have not already done the purchase on the m.2 drive, have you considered upgrading to a SM951 or an intel 750 instead of the 941? Also, which OS do you plan on installing?

Another suggestion, if possible, could the 980s be upgraded to 980Ti's or will the water blocks not fit?

I already have the XP941 installed on the motherboard.

I have purchased the 400GB Intel 750 PCI-e drive. With a sequential read of 2.2GB/s and write of 900MB/s, this card will probably be my boot drive.

I will be installing Windows 8.1 Pro for now. Once Windows 10 becomes available on July 29th, then I will be upgrading to it.

The system has nearly 1.5TB of SSD storage and 4TB of HDD storage.

The water blocks for the 980 will not fit the 980Ti's. The EK Titan X blocks will fit the 980Ti cards. The performance of two 980 cards in SLI will fit my gaming requirements.

The copper tubes, pump covers, and front grill have all been chromed and fit into the system. Performed leak testing on Saturday and the system performed perfectly, with no leaks detected after 7 hours of continuous running.

Now working on wiring the system.

Windows 10 July 29, 2015

If your going to install Win 10 then you should read this info
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/pros-cons-forced-updates-windows-10/

For those that want to keep Win7 or Win 8.1

Note
Win 7 SP1 support good to Jan 14, 2020
Win 8.1 Support good to Jan 10, 2023

What is KB3035583
Windows update put KB3035583 on every Win7 and Win 8 PC. This checks your PC to see if it is worthy of the free update. You will see a Windows Icon in the bottom right task bar.

If you do not want Win 10
1. Go to control panel / Windows updates, make views to see all updates. Look for KB3035583 and uninstall. PC will ask to Reboot.
2. Upon reboot windows will try to reinstall. Go back to Windows update and stop update. Look for KB3035583 trying to update and Right Click on it/ HIDE

You are done and do not have to worry about Win 10 again
