Seems like BF5 will be with us in the shorter term.

No details have been announced and its probably fruitless to wildly speculate.....so lets wildly speculate.

There are rumours of a WW1 setting.

Sound like a good idea to you? What setting would you prefer, if any?

Also, other than a possibly new time period for the game, what new would you like to see BF bring to the table?

Personally I think the World War 1 rumor is false and I hope it is not true. WW1 was mostly infantry combat in trench warfare. However, I have seen EA make worse choices.

What I want to see:

1. Battlefield 2143: Still my favorite Battlefield game to date. I love Sci fi and futuristic settings. Titan mode anyone? Only the best mode in any game to date. Mechs, Tanks, Hovering Gunships, Launch Pods, Cool weapons, really cool dog tags, great maps. Do I need to say more?

2. Bad Company 3: BC2 had one of the best Single player Campaign in the Battlefield Series. Also the Rush maps in this game were really good. The Destruction was well done.  Great weapons, Medics with Ammo anyone?

3. Near Future/World War 3 Battlefield: I think this would be a cool setting, however probably to similar to BF3/BF4.

4. World War 2: I personalty would love to see a World War 2 game in the current Frost Bite Engine. However, I feel like there are to many World War 2 game out there.

1. Would be my choice too. 2142 was an excellent game and I'd love to see that sort of thing revisited.

2. Possible, but runs the risk of just being seen as a cut down version and not innovative enough.

3. Agreed, simply not different enough.

4. Imagine BF1942 re-done in frostbite.

I could see some fun stuff in a WW1 setting. Flyable zepplins and biplanes could make for some cool air maps.

However, my two other suggestions are Vietnam......because DICE have done vietnam really well twice now......and to take a page out of Quake Wars book and make the two sides, humans and aliens.

I'm almost sure of WW1 unfortunately. A very sad end to an otherwise great franchise is my expectation.

What I'd Like to See:

-World War 3: This kind of warfare could implement cybernetics and other future war technologies in an interesting way, given the layout of a Battlefield game.

-Alternate Timeline: Alternate Timeline of the 90's with a Russia V Japan direct confrontation and heightened military technology for the time.

Personally I would prefer to see battlefield 5 as in Vietnam War,  because of the war in the jungles,  snipers and MGs hiding almost everywhere,  American choppers carrying soldiers,  American jets are bombing with naplam, I want it to be mostly about the tense of knowing you are most likely being watched be the Vietnamese all the time.

That sounds like a really cool idea that I would like to see in any battlefield and FPS games.

After that I would like to see Bf1944/45 (the end of the war)  that sound pretty cool too,  imagine a map of Berlin when the allies are trying to capture it while the Germans defend it at all cost

Why so down on the possibility of a WW1 setting?

After all, we get the first tanks and warplanes. There was a wide variety of theaters of war.

It wasn't all trenches across Europe and gas attacks.

World War 1 would be fun, I wanna fly one of the biplanes around! Plus the mustard gas and artillery would be really scary. I wonder how the possible classes will be set out if there is an NCO class.

My problem with it is the infantry would be so bland. What customization can you get past the kinda thing you see in H&G (a couple of triggers/ammo types/barrels)? It would be even more vehicle based than it already is, which seems like the wrong direction.

Battlefield was GREAT because of it's vehicles and the vast assortment players could get in and use. Infantry modes might be popular, but the true experience is always in the bigger, vehicle included modes.

One of the main issues with WW1 is simply the settings of places. While there were some battles that wasn't heavily trench warfare, they aren't that great. DICE would either have to go into an alternate timeline, hence allowing more mods and attachments and so forth (something like steampunk), or stick to reality, and squeeze the best they can, which could be hard.

Honestly, BF2143 is probably most likely. They simply love inventing new stuff, they would be giving fans their beloved game modes back, and allow themselves the creative thinking with it comes to map designs and weapons.

For the hardcore crowd. For the more modern "console" gamers for lack of a better term, the infantry combat is where it shines. If they start WW1 doin that, they're gonna lose more sales than Hardline.

Actually, it's the reverse, since most competitive game-modes are small scaled infantry modes. The "console" gamer actually enjoys vehicular combat, not necessarily by driving/piloting them, but by simply having them in there.

Unless by hardcore you mean the die-hard fans of battlefield.

I meant the die hards. I know comp is mostly infantry. I still believe though that any console gamers, which are a huge part of Battlefield sales, would suffer if the infantry quality degraded, and I just can't see the substance being there on a WW1 Battlefield.

Whatever setting(s) it has, I just hope it has good balance and gameplay, plus good PC features. These features are something I feel SW:BF lacks somewhat, but BF4 did a good job on, with the exception of certain balances, especially concerning team balance on servers.

I'm definitely hoping for a WWII, it's been too long since I've played a good game set in my favourite time period. I am also okay with WWI and I think they could certainly do some interesting things, although I don't know how they will keep a casual player-base with the slow-reload times and small magazines etc. I would really hate a near future or WWIII... I'm just really sick of the recent market flood of near-future cyborg or mech suit games. Modern or extremely near future would probably be too much of the same.
