Season three releases in three hours from when this post is released, and I am super pumped. Hopefully a lot of you guys are as well. More importantly, I hope you all spent your off-season preparing and practicing for this competitive season. If your are more of a casual player, no worries. We all have fun in different ways! Since this off-season is coming to a close, I decided to share with you all how I prepared.

This includes: Ana bot training, studying pro players, applying different playstyles in quickplay, aimbooster, YouTuber tutorials from people such as YourOverwatch, Overwatch Central, L0ne Hawk, Unit Lost, and more (Check out my other forum posts for links).

Ana Bot Training

I am pretty known to the people who play with me and my fireteam as the one with the worst aim. Yes, I get teased a bit, but it showed it was something I needed to work on. This training is pretty common among the Overwatch community because it brings great results. The settings should be headshots only, skirmish, and a map of your choice. Just like in any sport, you need to build your muscle memory. Being able to consistently hit headshots does not come out of nowhere just like hitting homeruns or shooting baskets is not perfect when first tried. It needs to be built one way or another. Since Ana cannot hit headshots, you cannot take damage. This training is a fun way to help you learn without the stress of an actual match. I noticed improvement when I played a quickplay game and got solo kills as Mercy by hitting every headshot. It is also incredibly fun to harass people as Lucio with your newfound aim.

Studying Pro Players

People wince at the word study, but it is an excellent way to improve your gamesense. Watching streams and videos of pro players will help you learn new strategies and know things like where and when to be places. Personally, I watched Grego because he has an amazing Lucio skill, but other players like Taimou or Seagull can assist you with gameplay as well.

Aimbooster

Now back to aiming. This is not a hack do not worry, but it will work incredibly well. http://www.aimbooster.com/ is a site which tests a variety of aspects of aiming such as tracking, flick shots, doubleshooting, sniping, and reaction time. All it takes is your cursor and a bit of left clicking. It is very simple, and it can even be adjusted for your skill level. Recently, my reaction time has dropped about 100ms (My average reaction time for a six minute session is 259ms). This is very good for gauging where you are and what you need to work on.

Youtuber Tutorials

I have listed a variety of videos and Youtubers who really help with Overwatch. You can refer to those if you need them.

Applying Your Skills

Going to quickplay is the best place to apply your skills and test how things work. The off-season competitive was not great, so quickplay actually had a higher competition level. Play your matches like you would a competitive match and see how well you fare. If you notice what you thought you learned is not working, go back and try and fix it or maybe that playstyle does not work out for you. Perhaps you might want to test out other characters or further refine your understanding of one. Playing with friends would help most as you can get peer review and work as a proper team.

Taking a Break

Sometimes it might be good to simply rest. Good sleep will improve your memory, focus, and reaction time more than cramming. Maybe you should go play another game for a bit. Take a stretch break. Overwatch will always be there for you.

All of this has helped me feel confident in this upcoming season. I cannot wait to see all the improvements of everyone and TAW members. As always, I hope this helps.
