Hi Folks,
After scouring the internet for a couple of hours i cant seem to find any real recommendations for what i'm wanting.
I'm basically looking for some over-ear headphones for use with my computer. No Microphone needed as i have a stand alone one.
They will be mainly used for Gaming and light music sessions, nothing to major. And lastly my price range is anything up to
£125 (May be swayed if its good enough).
Any recommendations would be highly appreciated.
They're called heahphones fyi
Few questions pertaining to the sound signature you might prefer first:
1. Open back or closed back?
This affects the soundstage of the headphones, which is what you could describe as how open the sound space is (kind of hard to explain honestly). Open backs have greater sound stages which makes the audio similar to bigger spaces with speakers, closed backs have more isolated sound stages. Open will leak sound to your environment by the way so if there are other people around, they will hear the audio as well, just not quite as loud as you.
2. Warm, cold, neutral?
Warm sound emphasizes bass, cold emphasizes treble, neutral is pretty balanced and would be closest to the source audio.
I also have a link to very good forum post that has recommended headphones in different price categories. I can help you pick out a pair if need be as well.

Headphones, headsets.. They are all the same to me :P
After reading into it a tad more, Closed and warm definitely sounds like what im wanting.
The Senheiser HD558's kind of look like something that i would go for. But is that too much for someone that's using them for Gaming and watching videos?
I personally own a pair of the 558s and definitely recommend them (though currently I'm really only using my AKG K553 Pros). No such thing as overkill.
Another thing to note with open back headphones is that if the audio leaks out, noise also leaks in. So if you frequently use them in noisy environments open back headphones are probably not a good fit.
As an audiophile who does reviews for headphone companies and after reading the article on above. I can say without a doubt the recommendations offered there are pretty off for most categories. I would also steer away from Audiotechnica. While they arent bad, they are not as great as everyone would have you believe. Sennheisers are also extremely over rated (anything less than a 600 series).
If I were to pick anything on the list it would be the AKG K612 Pro (I have a set on my desk right now) if you like open back headphones. They are not bright as the review states. They are one of the most natural headphones you can get.
If you need closed back look at the Shure SRH750DJ, VMODA Crossfade's, or Edifier H850 (Also have all 3 of these on my desk).
I highly recommend a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pro's. I've been an audio engineer for the better part of 30 years. I have never found anything to surpass their audio quality for the price. They're typically $99 US.
Always put your people first.
It's not about the K/D ratio. It's about the team victory.
Thank you all for your feedback and recommendations.
I think i'm leaning towards the Sennheiser 558's. The AKG K512Pro's also look very good and would be my other choice but i believe you would have to have a DAC if i'm not mistaken? And due to the fact that i don't want to fork out another £50 or delve into it that deep i think the safer option would be the 558's.
Ask your family for one for Christmas, let them find the best one.
