I’m not much of a forum poster and I'm not very active on the forum. But I’ll make an exception for Starship Troopers! I’m not affiliated with the game or its developers, I’m just a fan of Starship Troopers.

I’m not sure how TAW feels about early access games or Starship Troopers so if neither of those sound like something for you, you’ll get no hard feelings from me. But if neither of those send you running away, then “would you like to know more” about Starship Troopers: Extermination? Yes, great!

The game is developed and published by Offworld Industries who also made Squad.

Brief overview:

The game was released in early access on Steam on the 17. of May 2023 and cost around 25$ or your regional equivalent (as of time for writing). Now the game is in early access, which means that there will be bugs and lots of Bugs (the Starship Troopers kind). The game is a 16 player co-op PVE FPS where players kill swarms of Bugs from the Starship Troopers movie universe and try to complete different objectives while not dying. Think Killing Floor or Payday with massive waves upon waves with enemies where teamplay is king for survival.

Given that the game was released yesterday I have little actual gameplay time. But I can only imagine the chaos and fun of having a full TAW team communicating and defending objectives. There is an in-game VOIP that is separated into team and local(maybe squad?).

The game is cheesy as any Starship Troopers IP should be.

Per now there seem to be two game modes and three difficulties, and more to come. There is friendly fire, but you can get picked up by teammates. Under some instances you can respawn from a dropship.

There is also a building component to the game. During the mission you collect resources either as an objective in itself or to build a base and defend it until the extraction ship comes. During the wait for extraction there are no more respawns.

There is an exp system that unlocks more weapons, gadgets, grenades, perks and utilities. There are three classes (Troopers) Hunter, Bastion and Operator. Exp and unlocks are tracked separately per class.

Classes:

Hunter - Assault class with a jetpack and more movement speed.

Bastion - Heavy class with a deployable barricade and more health.

Operator - Support with a healing droid and stimpaks to heal your team and yourself. And the ability to carry additional resources.

There is Easy anti cheat if anyone would like to know.

As you can see here the squads are ranked at the end of the match. This may lead to some friendly competition! Each squad consists of up to four players.

I'm doing my part, and trying this game, fingers crossed that it’s good! Feel free to add me on steam:
