Yesterday I was 50 points away from getting promoted to diamond league. After that, I lost 9 straight games in a row to zerg. No matter what I do or how perfect my macro is, I can't beat a 3 base zerg going to roaches. If I attack off of one base they stop at two and overwhelm me with strictly zerglings. If I FFE into a 6 gate, they manage to barely hang on by spawning roaches over and over again and at that point have a 3 base economy to my one and a half and then it's game over. If I go straight to Stargate they just beef their way into my base. I'm so beyond frustrated at this point, my points have dropped like 2 weeks worth of games.
K just to add to this... I just got on my smurf account and BARELY won in a PvZ. My macro was at Diamond level, his was at silver, my APM was 110 vs his 40 something. If it weren't for him staying on pure ling a little too long I would've lost. Obviously I'm doing something horribly wrong in this matchup.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck, Mangos. You may want to talk to Pipboy, who is an excellent Protoss player who switched to Zerg a couple months ago, or Snipuh, who is an excellent Zerg player.
Hey badMangos,
Do you have immortals added into your build? 3 or so immortals before collosus seem pretty good from what I have seen. I'm not a protoss player so you might want to ask somebody else!
Alright I'll definitely ask them next time I see them on. I think I do need to figure out how to work Immortals into my build a little bit more. When I play I feel like I'm choosing between a couple Immortals or a Colossus and when they seem to have unlimited roaches anything other than splash feels wasted. I'll try adding in a few more Immortals and see how that goes.
In most of the games I have played toss tries to do a mid game push on 2 bases (FFE) with quick +1 weapons upgrade. My normal plan vs this is take quick 3 bases then try and ling roach until infestors come to play. Most of the time the toss push before infestors are in number or even out tho. From the games I have played toss doesn't go col any more.
Angelofsin is our highest-ranked player, so I'd listen to his advice ;)
My general game plan goes for FFE to 6-8 gate +1 weapons which worked like a charm the whole way through plat but now that I'm against Diamond they all seem to be able to hold this off fairly well (The entire outcome of the game comes down to this base falling or not) with just persistent roach/ling and during the attack I transition into colossus banking off of the idea that they're probably going to produce quite a few roaches to defend their third. Do you think I should go Immo or VR or Archon instead of colossus? When my plan goes like I want it to, the third base falls after a big fight, I leave with whatever I have left, and then maybe a minute later I do the upgraded 2 colossi push on the third that they usually try to re-establish (or they push off of 2 bases which is very easy to hold) while expanding on the back and can usually end the game there or at least be in a very good position being one base up on the zerg.
I realize maybe this plan only works against bad players, that was the problem I had transitioning from gold to plat was that my old plan of turtle in FFE forever and mass up colossi and gateway units didn't work at all in plat league lol.
I'm about ready to uninstall, I'm so frustrated. 16 straight losses in a row to Zerg. I uploaded the last replay to http://drop.sc/186205. This is what I observed:My spending quotient was Platinum, his was Bronze (floating on average 4.5k minerals the whole game)My control was better than hisI killed TEN of his bases, he killed 1 of mine at the endMy income before our big battle at the end was higher than hisMy unit composition was good against his???I lose.I'm obviously just not understanding something basic about this matchup so if someone could look at that and let me know what to fix I'd appreciate it. I spent too much doing the canons, I should've just done 1 pylon for the canons at his extra bases but I really don't think that was the deciding factor in this match.
Oh and PS with some 4 pronged DT harass I killed 54 of his workers... not enough to do anything
A couple of things I notice:
1. Probe production lacks both early and later into the game
2. For a FFE you got your nexus really late.
3. You didn't scout a spire, so you had no anti-air against corruptors.
4. If you are that far behind on air killing things you could switch to HT
5. His creep spread is sick
6. The dt harass was too late, he had his army up and broods up.
7. You are very zealot heavy
I hope some of these comments help you.
I would agree with this part, Trust me, unless zerg has a wall of spines with a spore / overseer DTs are a good idea. If you wanted to watch the replay again Sunday, I can sit in with you and try to point little / big things out.
Point 1, 4 and 6 are uneducated suggestions (a)
I'm not saying you are wrong at all, I was just pointing out at 2,3,5,7 are the big things that can be easily fixed
1.) What kind of probe count should I have for late game? I usually set my goal around have 2-2.5 mining bases (50-70 probes) before I stop producing them.2.) This one wasn't necessarily a FFE, I was focusing more on 1 base air pressure, it's just that my pylon was already on the low ground so I went with it. I usually go 9 pylon, 14 Forge, 14 Nexus, 16 Canon, 16 Pylon, 16 Gateway. Does that sound more reasonable?3.) I definitely do need to work on scouting against Zerg, I honestly don't even know how to deal with corruptors so I don't even worry about it... would I want to try to beat them with Phoenix? I usually try to get Archons to deal with any zerg air.4.) I wasn't sure how effective HTs were against Zerg, I'm obviously a noob lol :(5.) Yeah his creep spread was nasty, I'm really sucktastic at denying creep6.) Bummer, I thought since I won the big battle that my dt's weren't wasted :(7.) Are zealots not as awesome as I think they are? I like them as mineral sinks and because I don't want my stalkers to be tanking damage.Thank you so much for taking the time to watch this and give me pointers, not a single one I can't use :) Maybe a big problem is that I'm underestimating air and overestimating zealots.
