I thought it would be nice to have a thread to discuss strategy, and help eachother with our problems in melee, so Let's Talk Strategy.
I have a small problem, I play Terran and i have a problem with mutalisks, a big problem. a couple games ago, i fought a zerg player, kept decent pressure on him, and (though i failed at keeping it on because they were using banelings and i didn't want to waste units) started to build vikings, since he was making mutalisks. I met his force, but failed miserably, only killing around 7 mutalisks with like 14 vikings, so that's not a good counter, but how do you deal with a cloud of mutalisks as terran?
I love... gooold~
Short answer would be marines and if you see really heavy mutalisk investment, you would want to utilize thors into your army. use of missile turrets in defensive positions will additionally help you destroy their army. The army composition of thors/marines of course depends how heavy they invest in mutas.
Mutas are a hard counter against Vikings though.
Thanks MasterOdin (nice name btw) I have also found out a couple counters to units as terran with the help of a new member, Blaze.
Thors are also a counter to ultralisks, the 250mm cannons will leave an ultra at 1 health if it is fully upgraded. They are also a good counter for mutas, yes.
With Roaches, bunkers and marines do help alot, however siege tanks will tip the scales in a ridiculously faster speed when combined with bunkers.
There isn't really a way to counter dts with a single unit type, but Thors can kill one around a few hits. Marines can kill immortals at around 4 marines to every immortal, top of 5. Also air units would be the best hard counter to dts.
I know Marauders are a good counter for stalkers for their cheaper cost, but i never tested that with Blaze.
Useless info, it take atleast 27-35 scvs to kill an ultralisk.
Battlecruisers can counter Carriers, also Vikings do aswell, and in a pack of 12 they also easily kill motherships.
That's all i can tell because i don't remember everything else.
Great write-up, Stormy!
Thanks Vulkor, I thought everyone in the unit should know, since Terran players Can really have a hard time, and most counters usually aren't obvious, like the whole 4 marines to an immortal.
Also if a player is going to use DTs, make sure to have a missile turret or two near your forces, or 50 energy saved for a scan, just incase.
Forgot to add that last bit of info.
Also, another post since I've found out something very useful through the use of SC2's Unit Tester arcade map.
An actual counter to Stalker and Colossus deathballs is a few vikings, around 8 or 9 will kill them pretty quick, and have a lot more banshees. Since banshees counter ground units pretty easily, if you've got enough, then you'll make short work of those units, although it helps to not cloak the banshees, and if you can, use an emp burst or two, it'll make the fight even shorter.
I've tested with an MMM deathball of the same supply usage, and it will get torn up quickly, no matter what upgrades it's got, well that is if you don't split up your units (which I'm not good enough to do that yet)
But yeah. There you go my fellow clan members, the counter to stalkers and Colossi are Banshees and Vikings, just in case you didn't know!
Thanks for all your posts guys, really helped me alot! So thanks a bunch! :D
