What are "Warlords"?

Warlords is a new multiplayer game mode for Arma 3, which will be added to the game for free, it has been around for some time already on the Steam Workshop, because of the amount of players that downloaded this game mode Bohemia has decided to get it as vanilla content. It garnered valuable feedback from a fairly large number of players over the past 3 years or so.

The core idea behind Warlords isn't necessarily very original or groundbreaking. The game mode is a CTI or "Capture The Island".

Here's a brief summary of the Rules:

  • BLUFOR and OPFOR factions fight for the control of individual sectors, which are initially controlled by a third independent faction.
  • Through these sectors, players gradually advance to their enemy's base.
  • The game ends when one of the competing faction loses control over their base.
  • Each sector periodically generates a certain amount of Command Points for the faction that controls that sector.
    • These points can be used to request additional troops, vehicles, aircraft, gear, as well as various strategic advantages such as Fast Travel.
    • Players also get awarded extra Command Points for eliminating enemies and seizing a sector for the first time.

Those are the general rules of Warlords. There are some more details I'd like to mention here as well:

  • You can play with the players in one faction against the other faction which will be controlled by the AI. You can even play solo with friendly AI troops. Just leave some slots in the lobby open and the system will automatically fill them with AI.
  • By default, playable soldiers of one faction (even if they're temporarily controlled by AI) always respawn inside their faction's base. However, when this base has been targeted by the enemy faction, players will respawn some distance away to prevent continuous popping up of troops in an enemy-controlled area.
  • The maximum number of AI subordinates you can have is 9. However, if your teammates die too rapidly, command will refuse to send more troops to their death under your leadership, and it will take some time before you can request more men again.
  • In the default version of Warlords, you will not find any artillery units. Simply put, they have proven to be extremely deadly and until we'd find a reasonable solution there won't be any artillery shells raining from the sky.
  • The spawning of enemies is randomized, which means they spawn in different locations with different vehicles each time.
  • You can tweak a lot of settings in the Parameters menu. For example, you can disable Fast Travel or the stamina system, accelerate day-night cycles, set up the sectors so that they are controlled by playable factions.
