Misdev

As misdev I would like to mention our rising star, SeanZA, who has been making missions with religious zeal. His missions are well thought out and have really good background lore. Keyword here is consistency with long campaigns which are definitely loved by our battalion. Cutscenes, roleplay, good assets and interesting features, SeanZA does provide. Keep up the good work.

Feedback Forms

Some notes on feedback:

Misdev is asking for more mission feedback, to be used in making better missions for all of us. If you have the time please remember to take a moment to fill something in at the end of each mission. It doesn't have to be much, any and all feedback is appreciated. If you're not sure what to fill in don't be afraid to ask for help from your FTL or SL, or from batallion staff.

Batcom is requesting members submit any batallion related ideas or complaints via the proper channels. This can either be done via the batallion form (found at the top and bottom of this newsletter), or through the CoC. This way ideas and complaints will end up in the right place so they can be handled properly.

Role Highlight

Medic

Arguably the most essential member of a well functioning squad: instead of just taking life, the medic has the ability to save the lives of their fellow squad members. With saline and a surgical kit the medic can get the most wounded soldiers back up to fighting strength as if nothing ever happened.

Being a medic isn't something that everyone will enjoy. While your fellow squad members are busy returning fire at enemy forces, medics are working hard to keep everyone alive and well. A good medic has to be able to focus on patching up injuries while simultaniously being fired at. Medics are often better off trying to stay in cover, though some brave medics will rush out to aid another squad member in need or medical assistance. During high intensity fire fights, medics will sometimes find themselves in stressful situations. Sometimes it's beneficial to set up a medical point in a safe place, and have wounded people come to you instead. It can be hard to keep your head cool when there's several people going down at once: a medic should know how to prioritize certain squad members over others, to get the team back up and running swiftly.

Some tips for aspiring medics:
make sure you have enough blood between the medics in your squad, a fireteam can easily leak more than 10 liters of blood over the course of a mission; while you yourself will never need more than 4 tourniquets, it's always good to bring some more, as it's really easy to misplace them; in a risky situation you should prioritize keeping yourself alive, if you as medic goes down there is no one who can get you back up; take responsibility over your fellow squad members, they should listen to you if they wish to stay alive; and lastly, have fun as a medic, the medic role plays differently to most others.

PS remember not to give anyone any unconsensual morphine

Modpack Madness

Many members seem discontent with a few of the mods that have been selected for the current rotation. The options we got to vote for were also very lacking and none of the mods had seemingly been tested. It seems like no one was assigned to actually looking for more mods for the faction rotation. The rotation also has no regard for what mods go together well, which is a real shame from a mission maker's perspective, as having mods that go well together can create some great story potential. For this reason I suggest we look for more and better mods in the coming month. I as PIA am willing to organize some moments to look at mods together, and submit it to the appropriate people. You can send a discord DM to me (DynCoder) if you're interested, or know of any mods worth checking out.

Recipe of the month

Ultimate Chakalaka

FizzYAciD [AM 2ST]

Everybody just loved this! One can use tinned chakalaka, but this recipe inspired by Rita Zwane is so good! We decided to make it in bulk and freeze the rest in smaller packs. Two chillies give a hot result, rather err on the side of caution unless you are catering for chilli lovers. Serves 4-6 people.

Ingredients:

•  3 T (45 ml) canola oil

•  2 t (10 ml) Ina Paarman’s Vegetable Spice

•  1 large onion, finely chopped

•  2 green peppers, de-seeded and diced

•  1 – 2 green chillies, finely sliced

•  4 t (20 ml) curry powder

•  4 carrots, grated

•  410 g tin baked beans in Tomato Sauce

•  ½ cup (125 ml) Ina Paarman’s Peri-Peri Marinade

•  Ina Paarman’s Garlic Pepper Seasoning

Instructions:

1.  Heat a large pan over medium-high heat.

2.  Add the oil and sauté the onion (flavoured with Vegetable Spice), green peppers and chillies until the onions are translucent.

3.  Add half the curry powder and continue to sauté until onions are golden brown in colour.

4.  Add the grated carrot and keep stirring and turning the ingredients until the carrots are soft, then add the rest of the curry powder.

5.  Turn the heat down to very low, cover and cook slowly for 15 minutes, stirring regularly.

6.  Add the baked beans and Peri-Peri Marinade. Taste and season with Ina Paarman’s Garlic Pepper Seasoning.

7.  Mix thoroughly and simmer gently for a final 15 minutes.

8.  Use on Chakalaka Braaibroodjies or serve hot as part of any good
traditional South African meal eg: Pap and Wors.
