Elite Dangerous Enters - Vanguard
Greetings Everyone,
I am proud to announce that the Vanguard Staff and Army Command have brought in Elite Dangerous Online to Vanguard.
Elite: Dangerous is a forthcoming space trading and combat simulator that will be the fourth instalment in the Elite video game series. As with previous games in the series, the player explores an open galaxy in a spaceship, and the gameplay is open-ended. The game will be the first in the series to feature a massively multiplayer gameplay, with players' actions affecting the game's persistent universe. It is the direct successor toFrontier: First Encounters,[1] the third game in the Elite series, released in 1995.
Release date: Winter 2014

I am far beyond any sensible level of excitement for the release of Elite Dangerous. Finally, Braben and Frontier are re-doing Elite properly and it looks absolutely immense! Less than a week until open beta :)
So, I got the Beta and it's mind-bogglingly gorgeous to look at, incredibly immersive, and has a steeper-than-the-original (i.e. almost vertical) learning curve. My first impression so far (~3 hours in) is that it's going to be very, very, awesome - but difficult to pick up and play at the start. With that said, once you've grasped the basic controls, it is relatively easy to jump into a mission or head off and do some trading. Expect to see me again in about 5 or 6 years time when I'm finished playing this ;)
