Intel is releasing the new SSD 730 Series
Intel has been in the SSD market for some time now and been relying on technology from LSI/Sandforce in their products. Now they are releasing a new series, the 730, where they have an overclocked type SSD with their own circuits.

c The Control Circuits in the Intel SSD 730 are they same that are used in S3500/S3700, the difference is that it together with the NAND memory amps up the clock frequency. The idea with this is also so that it will be more reliable than other units on the market, while not being the top performing. But it aims to keep frequent numbers instead.
The 730 Serie will be available March 18th in the sizes 240 and 480 GB with sustained sequential read/write on 550/270 and 550/470.
From Intel's presentations:
"We factory overclocked the controller by 50% and the NAND by 20% resulting in 50µs read latencies, consistently high transfer rates of up to 550 MB/s sequential reads, and up to 89,000 IOPS random reads. To unleash higher levels of performance and remove storage bottlenecks, put two or more Intel® SSD 730 Series drives in RAID 0 along with Intel® Rapid Storage Technology to achieve throughput of >1GB/s1,2."
When
When it comes to power consumption it is relatively high with 1,5 watt in sleep mode and 3,8 watt active mode for the 240 GB versions, and 5,5 watt active for the 480 GB.
This means this SSD is not suited for laptop use, but they aim towards their target audience. Professional users with goals to aim for high IO-quality.
Prices for this beauty will be $249 (~189€) for 240 GB and $489 (~359€) for 480 GB.
