Vanguard On The Horizon-August

 

 

Greetings all, 

 

It's time for August's On The Horizon Post, for those of you not aware of what that is. In Vanguard every month we list several games that Vanguard feels would make a great place in TAW, and we publish them in a blog. Most titles are newer but there are some older ones as well that we feel would be good in our community. Also keep in mind that these games may be the future of TAW so if you have any interest in any of these games or any others, fill out the Vanguard Interest Form please.

Rend

 

Summary:

 

Epic fantasy adventure meets team-based survival in Rend. Inspired by the fabled universe of Nordic myth, the world of Rend is a harsh domain where the strong ascend as gods. Players must choose among three rival factions, combine forces to build their faction’s stronghold, and battle foes and brutal creatures. Together, they will endure the dangers of Rend’s treacherous landscapes to discover valuable resources and powerful artifacts. With the game’s deep talent trees and skill systems, players have the freedom to choose how they want to play and how they want to fight. When a cycle ends, one faction will be declared the winner… but the end is only the beginning. Victorious players receive rewards they can use in subsequent cycles as they ascend to legendary heights as heroes.

Fantasy Adventure-

Rend is the type of game to surround the player in not just visuals but powerful music. It strikes the perfect balance with mythical effects and survival aspects to maintain priority of survival in a beautiful world. The World of Rend is certainly not a friendly one, however be amazed and see as you play devote more of your time to Rend to just see those amazing textures and magical visuals. Mixed with sounds, visuals can be just as important to a game as actual game play, a game can be fun with good game play but no one wants to stare at a ugly screen for hours. Instead Rend allows players to not be distracted but indulged by their surrounding furthering the survival aspect as you feel the fight for your life.

 

Survive-

Enter a brutal, untamed world where you must defeat monstrous creatures and conquer relentless rivals to prove yourself worthy of ascension! Use your knowledge of the game to create a strategy to beat your opponents in creative outside of the box ways and work your way up to the Ascension! Partner up with friends and other players using the Faction system where you and many others partner up to take hold of objectives, kill monsters, and crush your rivals! Be careful because you will not be the only other ones with back up.

 

Conquer-

Victory in battle takes skill and strength. Master talents and technologies to prevail! Only your knowledge and prowess can help you conquer your foes. Having a base will help you immensely in ruining your rivals as you not only have a place to call home but a location where you can gear up and defend against attackers! Customize your base to your liking whether it be a small noob shack or a fully upgraded fortress, having a house will always prove helpful in your endeavors through the Rend world. But make sure to venture outside of your base to hunt down creatures and master your weapons and skills.

 

Ascend-

The victorious faction must present spirits to meet the gods' demands. Only then will a faction ascend and earn its rightful place among the gods. Use your faction, skills, and weapons to prevail against enemies, monsters, and destructive server events. All things are dangerous in the world of Rend just watch where you step and always be the hunter not the hunted. After you survive long enough and kill the monsters you need to kill eventually the victorious faction will gain the title of Gods!

Space Engineers

 

Space Engineers is a sandbox game about engineering, construction, exploration and survival in space and on planets. Players build space ships, space stations, planetary outposts of various sizes and uses (civil and military), pilot ships and travel through space to explore planets and gather resources to survive. Featuring both creative and survival modes, there is no limit to what can be built, utilized and explored. Space Engineers features a realistic, volumetric-based physics engine: everything in the game can be assembled, disassembled, damaged and destroyed. The game can be played either in single or multiplayer modes. Space Engineers concentrates on construction and exploration aspects, but can be played as a survival shooter as well. Expect players to avoid engaging in direct man-to-man combat and instead use their creativity and engineering skills to build war machines and fortifications to survive in space and on planets. Space Engineers shouldn’t be about troops; it should be about the machinery you build.

Game Modes-

Whether you are testing your creative engineering skills by your self or joined by your friends to try and test your war machine/creations against others. Also engage in whatever kinds of fun in the creative game mode with unlimited resources let your creativity take hold. Or join in on the survival mode trying to use your skills to take out enemies or create amazing machines in pressured situations.

 

Dedicated Servers-

Servers with direct connections allow the player and all of their friends to join a server with minimal lag and give everyone a more fluent game play experience.

 

Ships and Vehicles-

Build them, pilot them, destroy them! Use various resources from planets all around to create your ideal ship to praise and/or destroy you enemies with.

 

Building Ships-

With various parts ranging from oxygen tanks, air locks, turrets, rotors, jump drives, and more create a ship custom to your play style. Be careful though when starting these parts and ship building may be a bit complex but no worries skills come with experience.

 

Scenario Editor-

Players can create missions and game modes which can be played by other players. Capture the flag, death match, racing or campaign driven missions - all can be done by using the scenario editor, with your own rules and designs. Get your friends together and see who can destroy who with your own rules
