Gump Stories

First rule of the Gump Medal. You do not talk about the Gump Medal. ..................................Lesson learned.

I have two...but I can only remember my first one....During a CD2 match I ran into a building stairway where I met and promptly "Shot Gunned" a player...who was my team mate and my DC

When I was the DC of BF2 we had ranked and unranked  servers the unranked were used for practice. During East coast practice I was asked by some folks that were in the Ranked server to reset it since it was screwed up. I went into the panel and hit the server restart button. Minutes later they come back into my channel and ask if I did the restart. So to make sure I did the restart again. I did this about 4 times before the CO for the 4th battalion comes into my channel and tells me something is wrong with the practice server they are in, it keeps on resetting.............................................................at that point the cogs in my head start turning and I put 1 and 1 together I had been restarting the wrong server. Of course my CO couldn't keep it to himself and I received my first gump.

Now that is Gump worthy  - what a good story. Sometime i feel the Gump lost it's touch of being a medal you don't want. My Gump isn't that good, i just kicked a 
DI as DC of BF:division with the reason out of unicorn because i thought the starting rank of a DI was LCP but it was CPL. Hunter found that a good enough reason to give me a Gump.

Extreme meassures for extreme people i guess ^^

TBH, I dont have one yet, though you never know when you will get one. I once almost got one In QW as server admin when I made a syntax error in the PBbans file, which ended up banning everyone who joined the server, though it was quickly fixed.

...Note to self, don't rely on Kinch for timebomb defusal.  Ever.

(little bit more behind the story.  I had made a mission named "Seize Zargabad".  It had 1 "hidden" objective.  When the mosque got captured, a time bomb (conveniently placed on the floor of the mosque) would start ticking down.  If it wasn't disarmed within 120 seconds OR the defusal person typed the code in wrong, it would explode.  Unfortunately for Arma Division's 1st Battalion, the closest person to the bomb happened to be Kinch...Also note that the explosion was actually a Fuel-Air-Bomb 250 explosion... in other words, we ALL got wiped...By a single (suitcase) bomb.

I have a bad habit on restarting the bc2 servers like 8 times in a row to switch maps...

To whom it may concern, This letter is a formal request to the Central Command staff, to put before the Task Force Operations members, a nomination for our beloved Commander-in-Chief, Hook. The reason for this nomination lies in the following report: On Sunday, October 30th, 2011, while briefing for the upcoming practice; Hook checked into our channel and made some remarks about the healthy turnout for our practice and how well our division as a whole was doing. He told us of a member that was “dragged kicking-and-screaming” away from our division and they told him how wonderful it was to work within our division and how they would miss being with us on a regular basis. Hook finished by thanking the FarCry division for their many years of fine work and hoped that we would be able to continue as such. He originally checked into the Team Fortress 4th battalion practice. We politely smiled and thanked him for his time, yet were left a bit bewildered afterward how exactly the incident occurred. After practice some of us scoured the TAW archives for any clues as to go about bringing the matter to the attention of Command Staff, but in a polite (and slightly humorous) manner. Finding no prior solution, this is what we’ve come up with as a formal request: We, the below signed, having membership in The Art of Warfare’s Fourth Battalion of the Team Fortress division, and having directly witnessed the action detailed in this letter. With a gleam in our eye and a slight smile hereby request that GEN5_Hook be nominated for a GUMP AWARD, not out of spite or revenge but with the knowledge of knowing that mistakes do happen sometimes and that, yes, life is indeed a box of chocolates. We thank the Central Command for their service to our wonderful organization and the time taken to read this letter.
