It began over a year ago as the position of Public Information Officer [PIO]. The idea was to have a position in TAW that would/could be a contact for media, make contact with media and promote our organization. The idea was to have one central spokesperson. One of the first major accomplishments was to start a monthly newsletter. From the Battlefield was born. This provided both internal and external communication of the happenings of TAW. Other projects were press releases, link affiliations and partner connections. There was a lot learned in that first year. One thing that became quite evident was that the average life span of a ‘clan’ was 8 months so no one really cared to hear about TAW. Rebranding was needed…nearly vital. Thus the idea that evolved, in a timely manner, was one of community. TAW really is a community….not a clan. Once the communication changed from clan to community, people began to listen.
Since then a lot has changed. A few months ago the TAW Media Division was formed. This was a transformation from the previous PIO position to an actual division that grouped all of the communication pieces of TAW together. Since the development of the TAW Media Division we have found that having the different pieces placed into one pie, so to speak, was a wonderful piece of functionality. Previously news/information would come into the different teams and rarely shared. TAW Cast would have something that the newsletter did not. As we know, members and non members alike seek information from a variety of sources depending on their preference. This allowed the sharing of information and ideas in a grand scale. It has most certainly been an asset with the launch of nextgen.
As far as the future for the media department, we are currently stabilizing the foundation of the basic pieces. Once those pieces are stable we will creep into other areas of media exposure and communication with members and the world.
